Because they don't stop the clock on a whistle do they? So they calculate that time and then add it on. In AFL the algorithm has something to do with scores kicked as well.

Yeah, all the same. People just call it different things. I call it extra time.
As a football man i thought you'd be more particular with that. Extra time is actually extra time though not stoppages. stoppage is the extra time added consecutively at the end of 90 minutes to cover game play stoppages. extra time are the two 15 minute periods of play after the 90+ stoppage time are played to try and determine a winner before a shoot out. You shouldn't call them and it's not really open to interpretation the same as hey are two completely different things.
Its like people who call open play fouls a penalty.

I'm aware of the terminology and what it means, I have just never called it stoppage time. I've always called it extra time. When a team does play the correct 15 minute a half extra time, I call it stoppage time to distinguish between the two.
Bad habit I've always had I guess.

+1. There are so many things I can say that they failed to do. Simple basics.
- more accuracy with passing
- stop going on the counter-attack and then passing back
- sloppy play and sloppy ball skills
- embarrassing situations such as those displayed by Pepe (forking idiot, disgusting behaviour especially when the advantage is played FOR you)
- make runs and stop looking like disabled zombies walking around
They're heads weren't there. It was a pitiful display of Portuguese soccer. It is honestly one of the worst performances I have seen by Portugal. I am not shocked at the loss, but I am shocked that we lost by so much and played such average football.
Having said that, I will still support them. Let's hope they pull their socks up, get into the right state of mind and do better against the USA and Ghana. Well done Germany. A deserved win.

My favourite part was that early pass back to the Portugese keeper which was completely off target. He chased and tried to clear it but it landed at the feet or a German striker 30 yards from the net. Pity the strike was off target.
Good times.

After reading his above post, yes he should.Maybe you should coach them Gary - fly to portugal and take over the team.

They just seemed to fall apart when behind and then seemed to be fighting against each other instead of working as a team. Seems more like they need an ego manager, not a coach.

They did. And are on par with the loss Spain copped.

Exactly. Such stupid play. Why the hell aren't they concentrating... Such a big game and you wanna fork around with the ball with risky play? It's a recipe for failure.

Yeap, Nani running in front of Coentrão who would've had a splendid shot on target (hopefully). What a deadset drop kick. It's not the first time Nani has forked up in a World Cup game. I remember the last World Cup I think it was, Ronaldo shot and it was going in however Nani came in to header the ball into the net; he was offside and the goal was disallowed. Ronaldo was furious!
Ah well. Now to wait until Monday when Portugal take on USA.
