Hi all

Coming home from work today, I changed from 3rd to 4th at about 70km/h and the CEL came up.

It went into some sort of limp mode. Revs were all erratic, car wasn't accelerating even with the pedal right to the floor. Changed up gears and revs just went even higher.

Pulled over and kept it in neutral and revs were around 3k+ rpm.

Turned the car off and discovered a P0607 with my scanner (everyone should have one of these - best $30 I've spent). Engine Control Module Performance Problems.

There are seriously no definite conclusions online that I can find online. Only a bunch of threads saying that no one, not even Subaru), knows a definite fix. Apparently people have changed the ECU which fixed it? Others have gone to a DBW throttle (I already have this). Others have had stuck catch can valves (I don't have one).

My symptoms weren't exactly matching to these other peoples symptoms though...

After letting the car cool for 5 mins and resetting the ECU, I drove home with zero issues...

Anyone have any ideas? I'd rather not change ECUs if I can help it!

Car currently has 126,000km. Did an oil change on the weekend and filled up with 98 about 20km before the incident.

Probably a 'ghost' code or a sensor producing an incorrect (but in range) signal. Just do as you did, clear it and keep going.

Has your had an ECU reflash at some point?

FYI you cant just swap ECUs as they are loaded with the emission calibration certificates that match the VIN.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Can't be that great if it doesn't tell you what the bloody problem is! ;)

I would scrap the car and buy a new one. That would fix it.

It's been reflashed when I had the problems with the airpump around 20,000km ago. Would've expected a problem to surface quicker than that!

Yeah I figured as much re swapping out a different ECU. Hence the confusion about the fix!

Haha it told me the problem... Just didn't tell me how to fix it :P

Have considered your suggestion... My Commodore hasn't had any CEL's... I think I'll stick with that :P

They never do.

They just tell you what the ECU can 'see'.

Not good enough.

I demand a scan tool that can not only diagnose the problem, but can fix it too.
