Hi guys, pretty new to these forums so thought I'd say hello and post up the build I've just started. I'm normally whoring myself over at RSLC but I've been lurking around here a bit lately because last week I bought myself a Gen 3. I'd been driving a very beaten up Gen 1 GX for many years and had done a lot of work to it but that was in dire need of a re-shell after a truck decided to change lanes into me. So last week I picked up a pretty good condition white RX for $1700 (blown motor). I've ripped that motor and the dash out now and am currently in the process of fitting my old motor and wiring in the Haltech. I'll be transferring most parts from the old build plus a couple of new bits. No big intentions for it, just a fast daily that I'll try and get to the track when I have the money.

Old car specs were as follows:

- EJ257 block and crank

- Carrillo rods and CP lightened pistons, machined to fit thicker NA rings to improve oil consumption

- Standard main bearings, ARP big ends, ARP L19 head studs

- Standard Spec C "big port" heads that I ported a little and ground the combustion chambers out to suit the 2.5L bore.

- ARC large capacity sump + KillerBee baffle plate + Spec C oil cooler

- STi RA TGVless intake manifold

- Bosch fuel pump and ID1000s

- Garrett GT3071 and FMIC

- Symms 4>2>1 EL headers and TBE

- Haltech P2000 ECU

- DCCD 6spd + 6 puck 2800lb clutch + plated R180 rear end

- Buddy club coilovers

- Whiteline ALK, roll centre kit, rear lateral links and F+R 22mm swaybars

- Alloy front control arms

- STi CF front strut brace, Cusco rear, diff brace, spec C rear cross member

- 4 pot front brakes + 2 pot rears + braided lines + master cylinder stopper

- STi RA 13:1 quick rack.

- Stripped interior, sound deadening, AC, wiring, etc.

Did a bunch of other stuff to it but that's the bulk of it. Details of the engine build are here: http://www.rsliberty...yard-EJ25-Build

Should have it on the road in the next couple of weeks but won't be finished for a long time since I can't spend any money on it for a while but need new rotors, wheels and tyres to suit some Brembos I've had sitting in the shed for ages plus a new intercooler (old one had holes in it), a turbo, coiolvers, etc.

For an old shitbox, the engine and ancillaries were extremely neat.

Thanks fellas.

For an old shitbox, the engine and ancillaries were extremely neat.

Yeah, put a lot of time into the mechanical side of things, kept it as neat as possible so it was quick and easy to work on. New setup should be the same but it kind of sucks that you can't go under the headlights for the cooler piping on the Gen 3s.

Frangipanni stickers for the Gen3?

Yeah it's lacking in the trolling department currently, should have kept my HSV sticker.

Can anyone clarify what tailshafts fit the Gen 3s? I've been asking everywhere but no one seems to know. Common sense tells me that I'd specifically need a Gen 3 auto tailshaft to fit my 6 speed (since the wheelbase is longer) but I've found some conflicting info that says earlier tailshafts are the same length? Makes me wonder the extra wheelbase is in the rear hub design. Because if that's the case, I can just use the Gen 1 tailshaft I already have.

Gen 2 and Gen 3 tailshafts are the same. Can't speak for Gen 1 sorry, but worth a shot id say.

It lives! The wiring was less than fun. Wiring in the Haltech is enough of a pain but adding all the turbo specific stuff plus wideband, DCCD, AVCS and extra wiring for a possible future upgrade to 6 cylinders added a fair bit more time. Plus none of the factory wiring diagrams I found were spot on. All sorted now though, It's currently plumbed up as an NA until I get a new intercooler and some argon for the TIG.
