$90 for replacement light globe that goes behind the climate control knob in forester xt

the parts interpreter at Bill Buckle Subaru could hardly believe it either

i have had to quote something like this for a customer before, i think it was like a panel of globes/LEDS or something cause it was 200 or more i can't remember, and i couldn't really tell him what the hell he was paying for cause the catalogues picture was shit . i take no joy in quoting genuine, the prices come straight from subaru australia, and some parts the price kinda makes sense, because you have to A) manufacture it, pay those people . B) Ship it to japan warehouse for stock. Pay those people C)Ship it to australia, Pay those people. D) Get it to a warehouse. Pay Those People. E)Pay the staff at the warehouse to pick the part and dispatch it.  D)Pay the Workers at the dealership.

some subaru stuff is suprisingly cheap. (compared to other brands i have worked with) But some other parts are through the roof, but yeah some parts you would use genuine for sure like seals and stuff, but then others, aftermarket is just as safe, if not the same, and it's cheaper cause you are cutting out all those middle men.

Sorry to hear this.

Make me think. In years to come, who will teach this qualification?

Qualification? Looking up parts via a vin on a computer is hardly a qualification.

I get what you are saying Mark but Automotive Parts Interpreter is actually a level three qualification, under apprenticeship conditions.

Just like you and me!

yeah i have a qualification for it... sounds real stupid telling people i went to tafe to sell parts. but i have seen people come through this place with 20 years experience and no qualification... holy damn...

yeah its a crappy game really.. i enjoy it, but the pay doesn't copensate for the whole "your a woman in a male dominated industry" thing i cop constantly.

i love my job, i think i am pretty good at it. but people just intimidate and harrass me alot. makes enjoying my job difficult. im not sure where to go in the future, i love the industry, but there is no coin in it really... unless you own a performance shop...

270 bucks for a timing tensioner just because you can't get the bolt separately.

Used the old one and got away with it. :)

Heres a rediculous one for you all:

MY02 B4 sedan rear wing - comes painted but minus the brake light - $1600.

And for those of you still standing up, the brake light on its own is another $1200.

Hmmmm...

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.
