Does anyone know if the tail shaft from a gen 4 lib 3.0r with 6mt will work if I was to put it in my gen 2 along with the box? Or do I still need to get an auto tail shaft?

Does not fit - different centre bearing mount style.
Need an AT shaft.

Gen4 6spd won't work, You won't have a speedo.
Best bet is making up a conversion kit from a non-dccd 6pd.

Gen4's use the wheel speed sensors for speed reading.
Gen4 boxes don't have a speedo drive on them, Your gen2 cluster reads from a speedo drive.

It might be worth mentioning here that to drive a suby without the speedo connected (ie dash not displaying speed) will result in ECU limiting to 100 kph. The ECU is smart enough to work out the speed from gear changes and revs. Not sure if it applies to Gen 2s, but it happens to 99 wrx's, and everything else later that that.
MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Thanks for that info bibbyjimmy! Don't suppose you have a roughy estimate on what the cost may be ??Have to split the bell housing off the rest of the box (about 1 bolts and 3 nuts and some silicone/sealant).Take the diff out (mark and count the number of turns for the retainers).Get all the drive gear parts (the 2 drive gears, shaft, circlips, seals, o-rings etc) and make sure your front diff has a cut out to accept a drive gear too.Send it to AM Auto to get it machined - some bloke they use has a jig setup for this.I did this a few weeks before Christmas.

No idea what the sensor parts cost as I got a heap of other seals and parts at the same time.

Hunh? Any Gen 4 box will need to b machined as like Cam said they don't have/use speed sensors.
