Getting my 4 speed sport shift looked at today to find out why my toque converter is so aggressive

Just wondering if its more then $1000 to get it looked at and fixed, whats my options?

Seems like i have 3 as to ether get it fixed, replace and convert to a 5 speed man or can i get a reconditioned transmission that's in a as new condition

just wanna know whats the best path.

It's a 3gen b4
Feels like its stuck on even at idle. Its at its worse in the mornings where I'm hard on the brakes just to keep it from taking off at idle in drive. I might just replace it from a wreakers yard. Would rather a recondition one so I know it's going to be ok.

Flush and replace ATF and front diff before doing anything.
Check TCU for error codes
Reset TCU

Test

yep done all that flushed it 3 times.

Iv been looking around for used transmissions doesn't seam too hard to find em these days. just a matter of finding a good one.

Now looking at how hard of a job it will be to do my self.

would love to do a manual conversion but for what iv been looking at it seems very hard and alota work considering that theres more then just the box that needs to be replaced to do so

a direct replacement seems like something i might be able to do at home

OK so far iv Flushed the transmission 5 times and replaced the oil filter. Although the vibration still is present, operations have differently improved allot during acceleration and gear change.

Iv cheeked all engine and transmission mounts and they are in good condition and no movement.

No torque binding or duty C issues.

Replaced front drive shafts

I jacked the car up off all four wheels and done a few tests of my own to try induce the vibration. One thing i took note of was that when accelerating and stopping the wheels with the hand brake, the vibration was completely gone. Done the same thing but stopped the wheels with the service brake and the vibration was back. not sure what that means but seams to vibrate when ever the rear wheels have a positive load on the transmission.

So far i have realy nothing to go on to say that its a transmission issue so im going to move onto the engine now.

I had very similar issues with my Gen2 which led me to convert it.

Drive shafts and all trans / engine mounts new, no duty solenoid issue, Even ran it in front wheel drive which made no difference. Fitted manual - sorted. Id say definitely the auto box.

, Even ran it in front wheel drive

In regards to the FWD fuse i was told buy mechanic that the Fuse has no affect on the B4 Models is this correct?

reason why i know was because when i had my hand brake on the front wheels dident move while in dive when i had it lifted off the ground while in drive. i was told it was normal for the B4 transmission

Where about you located? I may have the parts needed for you to convert to manual if you ever decided to go that way.

Or maybe not as I just saw its a B4, don't think the gearbox out of a RX would be the same. I assume the B4 manual would be a bit tougher?

one thing i notice was my speedo may be out about 7 or 10kmh while doing 100kmh. not sure if this is a worry but was reading on about how the transfer clutch divides up the torque to the front and rear wheels using the front rear and torque converter sensors. could fault sensors or bad harness connector be my issue?

Motoring industry standard allows for 10% inacurracy.

Next time you need tyres, change the spec to correct this. Im running 225/45/17.
