hey all, yes i'm going to sound like a noob here but i've searched around and couldnt exactly find the correct answer. would a gen 2 jdm engine and harness just bolt straight into a gen 2 rx or would the wiring behind the dash need to be changed aswell? my thought is it would be similar to the wrx conversion to an rx with only the engine wiring harness swap.

cheers, Joe

what kind of jdm engine specifically? A twin turbo motor? Yes it will all "bolt in" in terms of mechanical swap but yes the wiring would need to be changed, Would be easiest to swap in the whole dash etc from the half cut i would think. That being said the twin turbo system would probably be a head ache to transplant and make it work properly. Much better off doing a single turbo conversion. Gen 2 is very similar to a gc8 so the wiring isnt a huge nightmare.

For gen 2's the same year JDM GT/GTB to AUDM RX are straight mechanical swap PLUS plug and play. No loom splicing required

buy a rex half cut.. its only 3 extra wires..
its only half a day extra to pull the dash anyway

if i was to covert someones car again i wouldnt be so anal about having the loom perfect...

HI Nick :D

honestly.. the time you save not pulling the dash, you tripple in replacing and fiddling with TT vac lines :|

okay so a jdm gt/gtb of the same year model would plug a play with the standard audm rx loom and only the engine harness would change to the jdm one correct?

how hard is it to convert a tt to a single turbo? (im very mechanically minded) and could i use the ej20r(tt) but converted to single with the wrx ecu etc? like having the gc8 wiring spliced and what not and running that engine instead of the wrx engine. from my knowledge the ej20r is stronger? correct me if im wrong

Why would you convert an NA to TT then to single? You would be buying a lot of parts you don't need and then a lot of parts you do...

Scooby,

The TT to single convert needs
Complete exhaust (manifolds, up-pipe, dump pipe, turbo brackets, etc)
rip off the turbo's
plug up the oil and water lines for the primary on the passenger side

you'd need a late model Manual GTB cut.
then you'd need to source a Ve3/4 STi ECU and re-pin about 3 or 4 wires.

I can't comment on the plug n play of the RX vs GTB dash/ ECU loom

I built an ECU patch loom for my 94 Legacy GT to accept a 97 GTB ECU (same as V3/4 STi)

V3-V4 wise..

WRX has 3 wires the STI has 4.. Air intake temp sensor extra in teh STI

from memory it was BCS (boost ctrl solenoid) APS (atmospheric pressure sensor) and.. mind blank.. one other boost related thing.

(actually there was one more for the EGT but thats not used anyway (well mine isnt.. all it does is light up the warning light on the dash)

So those wires would go from the engine bay to the ecu correct

can anyone clarify about the plug and play for a gen 2 gtb engine and ecu? sourcing one soon so want to know asap to go ahead with it. complete engine with turbos etc and wiring with ecu
