Hey got a 1995 subaru GX wagon phase2 engine 2,2L ok my car runs sweet here n there I drive it to work everyday winter and summer no problems.
When I drive up a steep hill and get to the top and then stop or stop at traffic lights my car all of a sudden has power and starts to idle ruff the tone of the engine goes deeper check engine light come on and eventually I have to pull over and turn of the car this problem also happens when I open her up a little driving in higher rpm then usual what could be the problem????

I've tried eliminating factors that contribute to this
Fuel service, spark plugs, leads coils , sensors maf, tps, cas, ips, eks
Like I said car drives perfect until a climb a hill and get engine problems has anyone had this before cheers

I have

Isn't this problem an O2 sensor one? I'm sure i have read similar stories and it's the O2 sensor playing up.

Jump under the dash mate, connect the diagnostic plugs up ( set of green plugs and black ones i think for Gen2 ) and see what fault codes you get. The CEL will flash a sequence of times which correspond to a number. For example, 3 long flashes and 1 short flash = Code 31. There should be a guide in the forum somewhere for you to work out the codes.

Do this and come back to us with what you find.

Adam, ill give you internet diagnosis....

Mate, just get the injectors cleaned... the car is near on 20 Years old...

my EJ22 did EXACTLY the same thing.. if the Ozlib forum was still around you could probably read the post word for word as you have described...

mine got so bad that if i gave it the beans on the freeway at the onramp that goes UP onto the freeway.. i would get onto the freeway then it would drop cylinders and eventually be shaking like crazy..

next time it does it.. throw it into neutral and see if with no load its ok..

i used to have to throw it into N, give it a few hard revs and it would settle back into rhythm and be fine until the next Hill.. only ever at high speeds though,... i could crawl up hills fine but any decent gradient at 80KM+ and it would just crap out.

Ben.. unless you were running sludge instead of oil i couldn't imagine that causing a problem..

EJ22's are near on unkillable unless you are that guy from RSLC that boosts them to 19phhhhhesseye stock lol
