I accidentally used the wrong suby key in the ignition and now the actual key turns over but the engine wont crank up and start.

Is this an immobiliser/security alarm problem?

I tried turning the key ON-OFF 3 times and still nothing

Unlocking and locking the doors with the key doesnt work

I messed around with for at least 2 hours trying every thing i could think of!

Reading on various forums but i couldnt seem to work it out

Also i dont have a keyless entry remote

just the single key

Subaru Lib Sedan rx 2.5 MY01

any help you can give will be appreciated

Certainly sounds like an immobilizer or some kind of security thing going on. My guess would be its been reprogrammed to the new/other key

I didn't think it would reprogram it's self just from putting the wrong key in

I would think putting a key with a different chip in it would make it not start, but once you put the key with the right chip it should start up no problems. As far as I know the central locking can be reset so maybe it has deleted the old key from the system some how but the key should still start the car.

My central locking no longer works now either, ever since the car was broken into for some reason it doesn't work anymore.

found the problem, the small chip has fallen out somewhere, no wonder it won't start ha!
Now I'm looking at $380-$450 to replace it if I can't find it

It shouldn't be that much to replace it. I don't think Subaru even charge that much.

regular locksmiths will do it cheaper. you're looking at 280 -300.
