so im about to embark in a couple weeks on my biggest project yet, first clutch install.

here is the clutch in question

now i have helped out on a mates old falcon ute, we had to do the thrust bearing on it. so i have some idea of what im getting into.

im just wondering on somthing.

how similar is this install to my gen 3 rx

http://www.rs25.com/...-pictorial.html

as far as i can see it looks pretty well similar, same engine and gearbox if im not mistaken?

just looking for any tips or tricks you guru's might have the made the job quicker, easier.

cheers guys

That RS25 write up is pretty well spot on.

Has yours got the DMF in it?

You'll need the Torx (Torx Plus 50 I think it is - look in Joel's Outback build thread) bit for it.

yea mine has the DMF, the release bearing is chirping like mad so thought i may as well do the whole clutch if im taking it all apart.

righto thanks for that ill grab one before i buy this clutch, im also guessing i should buy a torque wrench ??

libs 12,000k's out from 200 thousand so was wondering if i should do all the belts, pulleys major service things while the car is sitting. pretty sure the water pump is leaking so there's more reason to do it all.

cheers

Might pay to grab a rear main seal as well and replace that too while it's apart. I would also pull that plastic plate off that is behind the flywheel and reseal that with some silicon sealant. Just as a bit of preemptive maintenance.

Think about getting rid of the DMF. Now would be perfect opportunity.

yea i had planned to get rid of it, apparently with the SMF you get abit more lower torque, that would be nice.

thanks acres, will look into that, while the car is apart im keen to do things properly, no half measures.

See if you can source a metal cover to replace the plastic cover.

My box had to come out twice because of that P.O.S and I resealed it the first time!

i plan on buying the clutch kit next Tuesday, where would i go about sourcing a metal cover?  i live out in the bush and wreckers are scarce, atleast for subaru parts, everyone out here drives commy's, falcons and 4X4's

I know they are in another state, but I got mine from Ichiban. Its only a small plate and postage would be stuff all. I'm sure a lot of wreckers could get you one.

I just don't know what it's called haha

A decent tool shop. Some Repco's etc even have them.

Yes, especially for the flywheel bolts.

Also, that chirp that you said was the throw out bearing is actually the DMF.

do you know if the torque specs in that RS thread would be the same as my lib??

my gregorys service manual doesn't seem to have that many torque values in it, but the ones it does match up to that thread.

also would this wrench do the trick

http://www.ebay.com....4b4930b2&_uhb=1

is there a cheaper one that will do the same thing, been googleing for ages now for t50 torx bits and torque wrenches and trying to get em as cheap as possible

cheers luke

I used this in my RS impreza.

http://www.ebay.com....984.m1439.l2649

Just pay attention to how everything comes off, take photos if you need. its pretty simple to do once you've done it.

I use the lid of a spray can and shove it in the end of the gearbox where the tail shaft goes in, this stops any excess oil dripping out the end when you lower the gbox down, also helps keep dirt out.
