Hi Guys, I recently started smelling oil come through the car about a month ago it was only a slight smell then and when I sat at a set of light for a while, then smelt it through the vents. I did try and look for it but could not see no leak then but over the week found out the passenger bank main block, if thats what its call connecting to the head is dripping oil and slowly onto the manifold. Question.... will this start a fire, only dripping one drop every five ten minutes.

Is this disastrous for me.?  and does anyone know what the cost is to repair it.?

probs time to change them before you do any overheating or anything i did mine asap the stock gaskets are prone to failure . esp in the ej25's :/

can be done at home with a mate helping i had to have a whole rebuild cos it had overheated bad . so i dropped in a new engine and trans

Profile pic is a gen 3

They are prone to external leaks not internal. No risk to the engine, just going to leak oil from the gasket.

Mine leaked/weeped a little bit for 5 years or so,

then the oil burning smell was there all the time,

Another month or so on a bit of coolant appeared.

Then I did the head gaskets, it would not have lasted much longer.

Be on the lookout for coolant !!

EJ25D develops an internal Combustion - Coolant leak with the original Graphite composite gasket.

EJ25's found in Gen3's are SOHC and develop weeping coolant leaks from primarily the Passenger side head

Oil mixing with oil and vice versa and not standard subaru issues.. that happens when the engine has been COOKED.

i.e. overheated multiple times.. like SERIOUS overheating and not checked... my EJ25D lasted 3 months overheating before i changed it and it was fine.

my mate super cooked his engine though.. ej25D with water out the exhaust and milk in the oil filler...

that was nasty.. but that was cause he drove 150KM with no water in the thing.

still ran after we fixed the gasket but needed new heads.

OP:

it wont catch fire.. just degrease the engine and monitor it for a day to see exactly where its leaking from.. could just be the half moons on the back of the head.. they can go sometimes.

wont catch fire unless a lot of oil hits it.. smoke/oil smell is fine, its just nasty. Acutally seeing smoke, grab your fire fighting device

Mine drips from the rocker cover casket - yay

and used to drip from the catch can.. .in 3 different places... 3 different times... yay

Every time the oil found its way onto the exhaust *gag* *cough cough*

Stuff goes here
