I'm able to take some time with it as my sister has graciously lent her car to me for as long as I need.
Spent the evening stripping off what I didn't need off the replacement engine. Need to get myself some vac line tomorrow. Was even considering taking the manifold off for a lick of paint, but I know if I take it off, I'll snap the breather line fitting on the back of the intake tract! If I do break it, I'll have to fashion a tee piece off the front breather line and just run it to the back. Fingers crossed! Might do this tomorrow.
I have some time to paint it as I can't get the engine out of the GTB without a few able bodies around to push it into position in front of the garage! I would love to have everything looking new on the engine so I figured, once I get it in, I'll recycle bits off the dud engine and restore them and swap them over as I go.
Depending on the damage to the busted one, I figured I may aswell build it up and keep it as an "Insurance Policy" in the garage, should the need arise again. Hopefully the pistons haven't been too damaged by the valves... here's hoping!

So today wasn't too exciting. Had to wait for the wife to finish work so she could steer the wagon and I, push. I must say, it's the most demoralizing thing pushing your own car
Throughout the day I spent some time cleaning up the replacement motor as best I could. It really needs a good pressure wash and some heavy de-greasing. It's mostly clean but has a white powdery corrosion-ish junk all over it. I hit the manifold with a wire wheel to clean it up a bit and make it shiny.
Naturally, I broke the f'n purge control solenoid though it looked like it was going to break anyway. It beats me why they made the thing out of plastic. Might be able to save it with some superglue. Got rid of all the old vacuum line and made sure to replace the FPR line as that thing is always rock solid. The cam breather lines are still nice and soft which is a good indication of the age of the engine. It's mostly just dirt and junk from storage.
Now that I have the wagon in position I can begin the removal of the engine out of that from tomorrow.

Oh shit yeah Dunc.
This actually crossed my mind today if Bunnings could save the PCS. Confirmed!
Perhaps I can finally get rid of the fish tank OWV!

Just spent about 45mins polishing my wastegate. Giggety.
It was fruitless. Might just paint the bastard. Thinking about the ECV aswell. Make em nice and golden shiny, like new.

Tidy work Jimbo.
Why are you at a standstill? Time?

Need to source a timing belt, water pump gasket and turbo/dump-pipe gaskets. Pretty simple stuff but am running short of $$ and time at the moment. Have had a cutback on O/T at work so I'm down $50 a week and one Monday a fortnight is the only days I get through the week to do stuff, as everything is closed on weekends.
I could re-use the zorst gaskets in a pinch but they're pretty bad.
Have to take one of my cats to the vet tomorrow (lucky old man is a vet) so that's time lost, and not sure if I'll have enough $$ to go to Subaru to get all the bits I need. It's been such a slow process. I also don't know how much luck I would have sourcing the water pump gasket and a timing belt from like Repco or the like. Still need the zorst gaskets which is a trip to Subaru anyway. Subaru Parramatta is a pain in the ass and Penrith is a hike.
I used to be able to do this kind of stuff over a weekend!

Sorted. Didn;t know Docklands Subaru had a eBay shop, was hard to find. Got me a timing belt on the way and found another seller for the w/pump gasket.
Asked them about the zorst gaskets so hopefully I can get them through them aswell.
Can't be forked driving to stroppy soul-less dealerships so some mouth breather can sigh, slam a book on the table and not have a forking clue what I'm asking for.

lol @ the mouthbreather.
Glad to hear you had win. I finally got mine back together today. Swapped the BFM bulbs for red, white face HVAC, red hazard, new headunit. First wash since November or something (plus I live 8km from a coal port so everything gets dirty). Clay glove, air buffer for some polish and she's finally looking respectable again. Not HVC16 respectable but no longer the shitheap in the work carpark. Also had a facepalm and realised our truck needs a pink slip for rego this year and that means 4 tyres and I don't have $1200 in my wallet. So, brother, I have the same feels about money and cars right now.
Do you need a second set of hands for the install?
PS. If Penrith Subaru haven't changed in the last five years I'd steer clear of those dudes too. Actually, for parts you're good. That service tho...

Yeah I used to treck out to Penrith Subaru for parts upstairs when Geoff was there. Total legend, knew exactly what you wanted. AFAIK he moved over to North Parramatta as I caught him there last time I picked up some parts.

How's the pricing? Same shit online versus in person at the dealership (arm and leg + GST)?

Sambo quoted me $160 for a belt at his stealership, Docklands eBay price was $175 plus $8.00 postage. For the difference worth of a packet of fags, I'd rather spend the extra than driving to North Parra or Penrith, once you take petrol into the equation. I'm time poor so it works for me.
