sounds like a boost leak. stupid question but you double checked all vacuum lines were put back tightly after installing the EBC?

I think tuning is a crime of passion, or maybe a labour of love. Either way it furiates and excites me.

I dont know about esl but I've just had my eculabs modified ecu tuned with good results. I would think the esl/eculabs options would be similar - things like live tuning, launch control, flat foot shifting, flex fuel, speed density, multimaps, antilag etc. I'm not sure about the Power FC as its not available for my ECU, so I've never looked into it.
Also, double-check your nominated tuner will be happy working with the esl/eculabs software (unless you're tuning it yourself of course).

If you are handy with that soldering iron, shrink wrap, cable labler, and harness pin remover. AND you have the ability to read and understand factory service manuals.
You may be able to just swap the ECU over to a tunable WRX ecu and have a tuner tune it to suit your engine. I know it probably has not been done before, but neither was my B4 to WRX ecu conversion, you won't know until you research it yourself.
What I am thinking, CEL light wise, it would be similar to doing a TGV deletes once you swap the pins over and plug in the new 5 plug harness to the tunnable ecu. I would stick to V7 WRX 01-02 since know will be sure it doesn't have AVCS as you engine won't have it. This will be your closest ECU match. I would play close attention to the timing as the compression ration may be different to the new programmable ECU's comp. Your tuner will be able to sort it out though.
You main issue would be the sensors themselves, you will have to check the factory service manuals and make sure the signals and tolerance ratios will be the same, resistance and voltage. Also make sure you check the factory signal response curves as well to make sure they are the same. I am thinking for the most part it will be the same or similar sensors.

Im looking at putting a whole 02 wrx engine and ecu into my rs and I jeed to swap the key barrel and a heap more over compared to a jdm ecu which would not require it at all

Would it not need to be a jdm wrx ecu aswell as im sure the audm ones have the immobilizer built into them and need the key barrel swapped etc?

His B4 would have the keybarrel there already, he would just need to program the immobiliser chip with his current key. This is what I did for my B4.
Yes a JDM ecu wouldn't have this issue. The immobiliser detector module should be able to be removed from another car and installed near your ecu. Just stick a programmed fob to it with glue so you never need to remove it and you're set with an AUDM if you don't have it already there.

Just out of interest, you're only looking around $400 for eculabs (249 Euro) plus options.

Completely agree with the above - I chose Matt/Kido/TH who knows the Eculabs software and have been more than happy with the results.
If you have a tuner in mind, check what they would prefer/be capable of tuning.
...now I'll give you all a break from my Eculabs banter!
