so my car the other day over heated, anyways, last night i changed my thermostat, and added new fluid and bleed it, all seems good, coolant is sitting at around 80 max 92 degrees C, anyways so now i have anew radiator cap rated at 127KPA i will put that on, so when i checked it this mornign after getting to work my top radiator pipe had f u c k all pressure adn the over flow was full, now when i filled her last night i filled the overlfow up a little higher then normal just to allow for the bleeding and so on,

anyone got any other things to check, its not leaking any fluid, and behind the dash i hear a weird bubbling sound?

also GEN 5 :(

still air in the system if you have the waterfall behind the dash

i used a 2L coke bottle and lots of duct tape to make the header tank reservoir higher to help push the air out on my old car seemed to do the job

or if you want to get something purpose made

http://www.amazon.co...l/dp/B001A4EAV0

most mechanics who regularly work on subarus would have one of these i would say.

Subarus are very common to get air stuck in the cooling system due to the design of the engine unfortunately

Yep, waterfall behind dash indicates you haven't bled the cooling system correctly.

Jack the front of the car up as high as possible, or do the above.

the rad cap i had was rated to 1.3 bar, so i can not think it was the cap that died, it was less then a year old, also i might of have just used straight rad coolant concentrate, weird thing is i just went for a drive then over to garage 88 from st marys to eastern creek and got back and checked adn the top pipe has pressure like a mother fucker, and coolant temp is at 90 degrees still>>???

yer did not see the link till i posted and opened it hahaha thnaks morgan readign not now :)

Make sure that the cap is the same as stock.

It's rated to a certain pressure for a reason and it needs to stay there.

The coolant concentrate will have a ratio on it somewhere. Mix it up to this ratio and fill up your system. Top up with water.

yer did that last ngiht, ill do it again, you mention in your noobie guide, check for any leaks, i can say i dont have any water leaks, but can you get like air leaking in? it was bone dry before remvoing any fluid and yet there was still air in the system? can i do a pressure test on the radiator it self to see if it has a leak?

Well, checking for leaks would be the best way to see if there is a leak in your system...

I'd give that a go.

If you can't see any leaks, I would first do the air bleeding again.

The funnel on top thing is important, it's not to stop shit going everywhere, it raises the level of the coolant to help get anymore air bubbles out.

Hey Ricco.

Take your rad to the guy on Batt St in Penrith, he'll chuck it in the bath for you to check for leaks. Just out the front of Production Automotive.

Also consider that you may have some head gasket dramas, if you go through bleeding, thermostat change, refilling etc.. and you still get waterfall and losing coolant... doesn't sound good. TK test might be needed.

Cooling systems are the worst on subaru's.

yep, was thinking maybe head gasket time, sighhh that means, motor out :( ill get a leak down test done this weekend, i have the week before HVC to get this fixed lol, maybe if i con my mechanic mate he can pull motor, machine heads if need be and do gasket in a week lol fingers cross its not gaskets tho...

the waterfall sound is not as bad as what it was yesterday before thermo change and bleeding, maybe some more bleeding is needed and change the rad cap tonight, i did just buy a new rad as well so i will change that as well.

If you aren't sure/have doubts about anything.

Pay the money and use a mechanic to do the diagnosing for you.

Throwing parts at it or guessing isn't going to do crap.
