Just wondering if someone can point me to a Subaru specific program for onboard diagnostics. I have the obd2 USB plug and laptop. Just need a program to run...?

I think tuning is a crime of passion, or maybe a labour of love. Either way it furiates and excites me.

From what I've read, freessm is good for Subaru, but you need a particular cable. I don't know if I have the right one. I also spent $20 on a elm320 cable, but that's not the right one. Wish I knew before I bought it ha ha

Openport 1.3U is what you need For a Gen 3 Subaru Bloke.

I bought a <$10 VAGCOM cable from ebay and got it working with SSM on my 07 Foz - it can read ECU fault codes and sensor outputs.
I don't know how accurate it is, but values change as I'm driving along :)

I can not get it to work with ECUFlash at all, but I'm reading other forum threads like this: http://www.rexnet.co...g-com-flashing/ and wondering if this mod might help me.
Apparently just jumpering the two sets of pins on the OBDII plug can make this similar to a OpenPort 1.3 cable.
Since the 07+ Foz has CANBUS ECU, I'm not expecting to be able to flash, but if I could download a ROM/MAP from the ECU I'd be pretty happy.

Whilst I love DIY I dare say when you're playing with your ECU. And if you stuff up your ECU you could be up for a expensive replacement of up to 400.

Get a cable that will do the job. The openport 1.3u type will do the job.

I tried different cables. And the Subaru dealer also tried. I believe the ecu changeover has missed a cable and I will need to use the plug near the ecu instead. But I dot know what type it is

Is there another way Dr? I will try checking for power. I do get the light on obd cable when I plug it in.

I was hoping for a connection close to the ecu

Obd2 cable plugs into obd socket under bonnet lever, so I don't think so. Engine is from a 98 impreza rs. Pretty sure they're obd2 as well?

Dr it wasn't done roughly, it just wasn't maintained when problems arised. The conversion was done by combined auto servicing, who I am told are quite good and specialise in Subaru conversions.

Hey SubyDr.. Where are you from?

I'm sure we must have crossed paths at some time.. (used to work next door to Snowball, and i know Ross well.. He is the only mechanic i trust to recommend to people)

And you know that Snowball has the monopoly on the SSM's hahah

I was going to PM you but not enabled?

OP:

Hit up Snowball, he'll sort you out..
After i did my Conversion I was chatting to him RE intermittent CEL for the IACV.. He threw on the SSM and confirmed what he suspected.. Dodgy Neutral Position Sensor

Saved me forking out for a new IACV thinking that was the issue..

He has plenty of years experience and as mentioned.. Not a Rip like the dealers.
