1996 outback bg9

purchased from a family totally stock for $5500

drove it for about a year and had a slight HG leak, but was during the winter so just kept topping up until it actually blew mid summer.

Decided if I was doing HG's I might as well do a full rebuild while it was at the doctors lol

original plan was a jdm 2.2 but we had problems with the ecu. So then I was offered a h6 and declined it as I didn't like the fuel usage in them.

Ended up scoring a 2.5 engine that was in perfect condition that had just been serviced.

So we stripped it down and rebuilt it so we knew what had been done.

We also did the same with a 4eat trans,

and the front and rear diffs.

I got this car as it suits what I use it for

cruises, off-road/dunes & rallies, camping, fishing and it holds all my gear for cricket and photography.

ATM im about half way done with it as I had a bid of a setback the day I drove it home from my rebuild I was bumped by a semi driver that “ couldn't pull his truck up” then told the police he didn't know how heavy his load was :/ yeah so.....

so ive had to replace the rear bumper cheers to CRUIZIN !. The rear tailgate and I need to find a new front bumper as it has a few deep cracks that cant be patched up :(

other than that I just have small stuff left to do on it.

Would love a respray, thinking about top half satin black and the bottom keeping it silver or wrc blue all over.

Msd coilpack,

suspension bushes replaced,

would like to get a momo steering wheel and quickrack,

manifold plenum spacer,

6000k hids

new engine and trans mounts,

removing the roof lights and replacing with a wind deflector and then maybe some hella 1000s rectangle x4.

after all this it will be hitting the 300000k point so ill be going over the chassis and suspension to make sure its all safe and secure nd drive onto the next 100000k :)

I like what you've done with this - but I've gotta ask - why the lift + lower profile tyres?

You have a 30mm smaller rolling diameter compared to the factory 16's atm.

Throwing a 225 55 on those gtb wheels would give you a 15mm bigger rolling diameter.

Fill the guards and gain 7.5mm ground clearance at the same time ;)

Even a 215 55 would give you a small height increase and fill the guards.

that makes sense... have been thinking of something similar with my gen3 OB.

A nicer set of big rims with street tyres and dirt-oriented hoofs on the stock rims for camping trips.
