My heater in my Gen3 1999 Legacy B4 is really inaccurate and has a mind of its own in what temperature it feels like blowing out. If im driving along and have it set to say 22 degrees it will blow fine then go cold. Turn it up to 31 and still blows same coldness. Turn it to 32 and blows max heat. Turn it back down say 5 degrees goes back to cold

Is their any fix for this?

Need more information such as does this occur in only one mode (i.e. happens only in circulation mode/only in outside air mode/in both)?

Had a similiar issue in my Calais except reverse (blew hot air no matter what temp I set it to).

Turned out to be a faulty ambient temp sensor.

How climate control works, is that it reads the current interior temp and tries to bring it to the temp you set. My sensor was thinking the interior temp was like 5 deg and was constantly blowing hot air to warm it up!

The Ac system in the gen 3 has limited electronics testing I believe. Read through the FSM

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

This exact problem happened to me
It would blow a constant cold temp when set between 19degress and 31 degrees
But soon as I put it to 18 it would be cold like it's meant to be and set at 32 it was hot

I replaced my climate control with another one I had and it fixed the problem

Did you run through the diagnostic procedure in the FSM?

Can be found here: http://www.veloce.pw...technical 1.htm

Let me know if you need a HVAC unit replacement - got one out of a 99 outback works fine.

(also have heater and blower cores if you need them, but sounds like its the controller)

The ambient temp sensor is actually behind the small grille in the bottom right (I think) of the main control unit. So if you replace the entire unit it should fix the issue. I wouldn't be surprised if you can't replace the sensor separately.

Sorry, I should have clarified. Cabin temp sensor, not ambient temp sensor. If replacing the unit doesn't help, replace the ambient sensor under the horn behind the front grille. But you will save a hell of a lot of money by running through the diagnostics procedure in the service manual. It shows all sensors temps through a cycle, so you will be able to narrow down the problem sensor.

You want the HVAC diagnostics link: http://www.veloce.pw... PDFs/hvac4.pdf

You're welcome to my unit for the cost of postage.  I forgot it has a busted OFF button (which may be fixable, I've not bothered to pull it apart) - but the rest functions fine (I just never turned it off :)

Just note that you may not be able to operate the dimmer function with the lights on then
