Guys, had an interesting experience last night coming out of a corner, not going too fast, about 50, steering locked up as I was straightening up out of the corner. Quite a scary experience, and considering that I was doing some "spirited" driving about 15 mins before I am thanking somebody for looking out for me and not letting it happen when doing 90 round a 45 corner...... Has anybody every experience such an issue before where the steering just locks up ? I know it's not the PS pump or fluid, it's all fine and wouldn't cause a lockup anyway as it's just assistance to the rack, however the only thing we can come up with is that there is some crap in the rack which has gotten lodged in the splines somewhere and cause the lock. Interestingly just before it happened the steering got a bit heavy 2 or 3 times so I stopped to check the belts as it felt like the pump belt was slipping or something, but all was good. Any suggestions would be appreciated whilst I wait for the rack to be stripped down and checked. Regards Paul

Genuine GT? Common for the variable ratio (?) racks to shit themselves. Put in a standard one, win.

It is a V4 STi close ratio rack in it, hence why I'm surprised about it playing up so badly, lucky I wasn't going silly or on the track :o Regards Paul

Need moar muscles? Sounds like there must be something significantly solid stuck in the rack to me. Did it come good or is it still locked? Had any split steering boots lately?

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Yeh second that Shane. Strange thing is that it was fine after the car stopped, and never did it the whole way home afterwards. The steering place can't find anything as yet, next step is remove and strip the rack, god knows how long I'm going to be without a car..... Regards Paul

Wouldn't have been the steering lock somehow coming on in the steering column?... Just a thought if they cant find anything in the steering rack itself.
