I need a bit of help before i take it to the mechanic guys. Video Below.

My clutch (i assume) is making a screeching noise when the clutch is fully out, but only when the engine is cold. When the clutch is pressed in, the noise stops, but comes back when the clutch is out. It doesn't sound loud on the video, but it is quite loud. Give it around 5 minutes of driving and it won't happen again until the car is cold.

It started out of nowhere really, all fluids are fine and car has recently been serviced.

Any help would be appreciated guys.
Cheers. :)

If its the dry screech I can hear, plus your description, I'd say the thrust bearing is worn.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

If I recall didn't this model have a dmf?

I've heard reports of noises coming from the actual flywheel.

Either way the box needs to be pulled.

Thanks guys
After reading that I did a lot more googling and it seems probable that it's one or both of these

What kind of money am I looking at to get it replaced/fixed ?

If its the DMF, they usually make noise under load.

This is only engaging, dis-engaging the clutch.

I would guess at about $1200 for a quality clutch kit and a solid flywheel.

It cost me just under a grand for all the bits (new) to do a DMF -> SMF conversion on the wife's GenIII, no labour.

I think my brake supplier could have sharpened his pencil a little more on the price.

Pretty sure I've got the DMF screech..

This video might help

Sounds different to yours, I get it when I dab the throttle or at low revs, coming out of drive ways, taking off etc

Sometimes it'll screech lightly while idling too
But no noise just pushing the clutch in and letting it out

It's been there for a while, looking at SMF conversion kits at the moment :(

Could be spigot.

Can't be.

The noise is when the clutch pedal is fully out, so the input shaft and crank are rotating at the same speed.

Would I need the full clutch kit though?
Clutch feels good it doesn't slip at all
My brother had an exedy supplied and installed the other week for 1400 on my old rs impreza

To replace the thrust bearing is the whole kit needed is what I'm saying

Technically you can just replace the thrust bearing.

However, if the bearing is worn, chances are that the clutch is too despite the fact that it feels OK.

I guess you have to decide if you want to risk removing the gearbox again at a later date to replace the clutch. Remember that a new thrust bearing is part of the clutch kit.

When I did the clutch in the wife's RX it was purely to address the noisy flywheel. The clutch was well and truly worn, it felt fine and and had been fitted by the dealer just prior to us buying the car.
