Hey guys,
Was wondering what gearboxes fit the 01 wrx?
Does the 05+ still fit since they swapped to the 2.5l
If i upgrade to a newer gearbox will i only have to swap the gearbox and rear diff? or will there be other parts needed? Cheers

Any gearbox made for an EJ should fit an EJ. Diff ratios are what you need to look out for

Any ej? including the 09 sedan?
Yeah the 01 has the 3.9 ratio was looking at maybe swapping to 4.44 instead since there is so many more 4.44 boxes. Is it just the rear diff that needs to be swapped?

Id assume it would fit. Im not sure 100% if its just the diff so I wont say anything in case its wrong haha

Need to be careful of clutch type too.
I'm pretty sure the bug has a push type clutch and the later 5 speeds are a pull type. Hopefully someone who knows for sure can confirm that.

Clutch type did change around 06 with the Hawkeye. Up to '05 the WRX had a pull type clutch. '06 onwards had a push type clutch. I swapped from a pull type 5 speed in my GC8 to an '06 push type.
If you go to a push type arrangement, you will need:
- Gearbox (obviously)
- Clutch slave cylinder (normally comes with gearbox but may not)
- Longer clutch line (pull type is closer and therefore shorter)
- New clutch to match the gearbox
- Matching '06+ flywheel (pull type had a 0 profile flywheel and the 06+ has a +/- 2mm profile - I can't remember which but it's different)
- Matching front driveshafts (older gearboxes had stubs whereas newer gearboxes have male driveshafts that go into the gearbox)
Unless you're getting an awesome deal, it's probably not worth it. I bought nearly everything I needed from a guy who was going 6 speed so it worked out okay.
Also have a 4.444 ratio R180 for sale from my setup if you are in the need of a diff.
