To Sell or Not to Sell?

20 April 2014 - 09:03 PM

I have a MY06 Liberty 3.0 R B Spec that has about 135,000 kms on the clock. Absolutely happy with the car and would be happy to keep it, though I would like to upgrade the sound system. However my repairer tells me that the 6 cylinder motors in these things start developing water pump problems at somewhere between 150 and 180k. And to repair the fuel pump is a major repair, $2000+. This is making me think it's time my Liberty and I parted company. Is this a valid concern?

4 Auto Electricians - still no cure - cruize control EMS fault

17 November 2013 - 11:07 AM

I am a desperate owner of a MY06 Liberty 3.0B spec that I have had since new. All is good with car except that the engine management light and cruise control light come on randomly. In cooler months, never, in warmer months usually after 15 - 45 minutes of travel. It stays on anything from 1-5 days before resetting itself but the reset only lasts the usual 15-45 minutes. 4 Auto Electricians have had a look at car but the fault codes differ every time. The only consistent one is that all 6 cylinders misfire. Plugs have been changed. The last Auto electrician's conclusion: Can't be all 6 coil packs, can't be all 6 injectors, no other faults recorded therefore must be fuel pump. Changed that (ouch $700) but made no difference. I need my cruise control to avoid speeding fines.

I am therefore seeking help to determine:

  1. What could be the cause of the problem; or
  2. Is there some way I can rig up a switch that will enable me to press the reset button every time the lights come on; or
  3. Confirmation that it is time to say farewell to my much loved Liberty?

Can anyone help?
