Hi Guys,

 

I got a fair bit of play in my steering wheel and when I'm driving, the car feels like it's on a railroad track and pulls left and right. Sometimes to drive straight I could be holding the wheel at 2 o'clock and then at 10 o'clock.

 

Any suggestions on how I could work out what's wrong?

I did want to lower my car but these are standard springs I believe.

There's a weird sound that I've noticed and this is the procedure when I notice it.

 

When I back out of my driveway I turn my wheel to the left and back out on to the road, put it in drive and start to move forward while turning to the right so I go straight. As I start to move, I hear this sound that I can only describe as a quick, creaking releasing kind of sound.

 

Any ideas what it could be?

So my Wagon needs some TLC but I'm wondering if I should attempt to do it myself over a couple to few months or if I should get it done for me?
 
Due to a limited budget (29, 1st semester at Uni, not working, long story, need a job), I consider I have 2 options; I can get started straight away and do things myself slowly over the next few months at a reduced cost (theoretically) or I can leave my car how it is an save until I have the funds to take it somewhere to get all the repairs done.

Top of the tailgate is very dull has a dent as you can see on the right of the image.

This is my biggest concern, dents and rust.

 
So what do you all think?
 
Could I fix this stuff relatively cheap as a "fun" D.I.Y. or would I be better off getting someone to do it all for me?
