Basically,  I used to use WD40/CRC through the TB as an upper cylinder/valve cleaner (& do not endorse this @ all). Before I knew about the Sooby service type they use. This is what I did to the Sooby, as well as changing the airfilter which was a bit blocked.

Thought I'd experiment since the thing kept playing hard to start after short trips.

Even with this heat. It has only happened once since shooting the WD40 down a inlet mani vacuum line entry point. About 1/3 normal 355ml can.

Also, added ATF to the fuel tank. Firstly, added just under 100ml to just 15 odd litres? Then, 1/3rd bottle roughly to a full tank, so not to overdo it.

Runs better & got 570kms until fuel light came on yesterday. Mainly suburban driving. Before the trial I only got 470-480 when the light would come on = approx 48L fuel usage.

I think that's amazing for a 1500kg car ;)

agai, this was an experiment using lubricants only!

In the ol' days, race crews would use a mix of 1/3 Brake fluid to 2/3 petrol but this was prior to cat converters! Then came the WD40 thing.....

Guyz, seemed to have fixed the prob.

Cleaned her top with an ol' homebrew upper cylinder cleaner trick I learnt some years back & put some fuel additive in.

It doesn't have the starting issue no matter when I stop/start now & it would appear that I have improved economy. Will know definitely once I refill tank. Will post again then with more details on what I did. I'm quite amazed ;)

Doh! I normally use Caltex 98, not BP so, ther goes that idea.....I will try the wooden pegs, just to see if it prevents this. Wasn't good the time it stalled going through a roundabout. Luckily I changed down gear & it regained power when I let clutch out. Very scary beside a truck in roundabout with power loss to steering

Walts, I don't get any dash light appear. Must admit I don't usually rev it that high. Very rarely sees over 5k. Thanks for info though. More I know about querky habits the better.

Yeah, I kinda think it has @ least something to do with the 98 fuel from reading. May not be specific cause though but contributes? Funny you mention BP Zig_Zac, as this is what I mainly use. Mine will wind over like 20-40 times, not 4 lol. At times, I wiull have to walk away for 15mins & do something else, then return. Gives ya the sits! Would be good to fill up with Shell next time & see if it occurs again?

Did read a bit into vapour locking & came up with the following:

Normally to do with heat within engine bay. Also, fuel line being close to heated engine parts etc but, wouldn't think lines were close to exh mani or such?

Going to go over line position this morning.

Found a good temporary trick. Use wooden pegs on fuel lines to act as heat sinks, esp where line is closest to heat source. Will try this as the weather is getting warmer here in OZ (start of summer)

Another is open the bonnet for a few mins before starting after short trips.
