Gearbox shifts better at high rpm

30 May 2014 - 05:59 PM

Ok, so if I accelerate slowly of the lights, and change from first to second, the gear change catches a bit and doesn't feel right. Kind of like the synchro is on the way out.

But then if I'm racing someone and smash the gear change at high rpm, it glides into gear perfectly and feels like a brand new gearbox.

Anyone experiences this or know what could be happening?

My Rs

15 May 2014 - 05:15 PM

Hey guys. For those of you who didn't see my introductions thread, this is the third first gen liberty that I've owned. She's a genuine Australian delivered wagon, with a fair few mods, courtesy if both myself and the previous owner, with many more to come:

Engine/driveline/exhaust etc:

- Sti block with standard rs intake and intercooler, so it's not noticeable unless you look at the engine numbers. (Helpful if the fuz are poking around in there haha)
- Parallel fuel rails done by Mic at tecworkz.
- Sti 5 speed transmission.
- 3" mid pipe
- 2.5" diff back (Herod muffler, about to be replaced with a 2.5 turbo xs muffler if I get around to it)
- Apexi power FC. (not yet installed. Waiting to get a 3" dump, bigger intake and possibly a front mount before installing, so I only have to tune it once)

Suspension/handling:

- Pedders struts and springs. (Sportsryder)
- Sti alloy front control arms.
- Whiteline adjustable front and rear sway bars.

Visual:

- Wrx 'bucket' seats.
- 17" wrx wheels painted black.

Chip vs Ecu

01 April 2014 - 04:03 PM

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right section, but I need some advice on chips vs an aftermarket Ecu in my rs liberty.

I have a good opportunity to get a power FC Ecu fairly cheap, but I'm not sure I really need it.

The setup/planned mods is:

Sti motor
Exhaust (full system, 3" dump/mid to 2.5 diff back)
Cai
Possibly up boost from stock 10psi or whatever it is to 14psi.

I'm not trying to make it insane, just want a fun car with a bit of go. If I could pull 140atw I would be very happy. If I get more then sweet, but I'm not chasing big numbers. (Yet)

Lowering rs wagon

29 March 2014 - 10:01 AM

Hey guys.

Looking at putting a set of lowering springs in my rs wagon as a temporary fix till I can afford coilovers.

The problem is that it doesn't have standard struts in it. I'm fairly sure they're wrx struts, but not 100% positive.

Now my understanding is that the springs in gen 1 and gen 2 libertys/outbacks, sf foresters and gc imprezas are all interchangeable? And these are the only cars the struts could be out of? So if I just get a set of gc8 hatch king springs they should most likely fit?
