GC8 FMIC?

25 April 2014 - 04:23 PM

Hey guys,

Quick question, have any of you guys had experience installing a front mount kit on a GC8 wrx?

I have a '96 gc8 with a '95 engine in it and was wondering how hard a task is this going to be? Something i should be able to tackle over a weekend?

I installed a fmic on my old 180sx and there was a fair bit of hacking involved (Battery tray, front reo etc)... Took the best part of a weekend.. Just wondering how this will compare?

From the guides I've checked out online it looks like i might be able to get the piping up through the front guard with minimal choppage.. Just wondering if any of you fella's have pulled this task off in the past?

Advice, links and pics all welcome :)

Haha oh, and here is a pic of my old 180sx with my mate holding up the stock side mount as a comparison :P

New wheels :D

11 April 2014 - 01:35 PM

Hey guys!

Just got my hands on a second hand set of wheels; 16'' off a Liberty i think it was?

$200 with a slight bit of gutter rash and about 80% tread, cant complain.

Anywhos, painted em up glossy black and i think they look pretty smick :) Fit the arches heaps better then my 15'' stockies i had on earlier anyways.

Photo is a dodgy iphone shot so apologies in advance haha

CEL: O2 sensor - Front or back?

10 April 2014 - 08:46 PM

Hey guys,

Got a Check engine light the other day, checked the code and it's saying its an o2 sensor.

Just wondering if that would be the front or rear o2 sensor that needs replacing?

Car is still good on fuel (10L per 100km on average) but want to swap it out before the hunter valley cruise next month..

Also, is the front one located on my dump, and the rear one like on the cat halfway along my exhaust? (1996 GC8 WRX)

Thanks :)

7psi on stock '95 GC8? Restricor pill?

07 April 2014 - 08:47 AM

Hey guys,

Just installed a boost gauge and i'm only getting around 6-7psi max on boost..

Was inquiring on another thread about my Coil packs and a couple of the boys on here (Samwise and alexxx?) mentioned i may have issues with my waste gate lines setup.. Stock boost being around 10-11psi.

Now until i pull of my lines i cant be 100% sure, but from the little research ive done it sounds like the guy who owned the car before me might have replaced the turbo vacuum lines and not replaced the restrictor pill?

I'm going to replace the lines myself but am curious where the heck i would get a restricor pill? Is this the sort of thing you can only get from a Subaru dealer?

Am hoping to get new vacuum lines;  To wastegate actuator, to turbo compressor housing nipple (with restrictor pill inside) and to wastegate solenoid valve...

Anyone run into this problem before?

(attached are diagrams of how it should be set up)

New coil packs? Need some guidance!

05 April 2014 - 08:32 PM

Hey guys!

Just got my car back from SubGuru, they dropped a 2nd hand 1995 wrx engine into my 1996 gc8 wrx as i had a blown head gasket and all sorts of cooling problems going on.

---- EDIT ----

Car is running well however they mentioned i should invest in some new coils as mine have a bit of a miss under load, especially noticeable on full boost in 1st and 2nd gear.

Its like; 'Car starts pulling on boost, car near's full boost (around 7psi) 'stutter' boost drops out 'stutter' boost drops out, full boost again  :P

I have only noticed it when launching hard from a standstill.

If i'm cruising along in 3rd and 4th and keep accelerating car hits and holds boost fine.

Is it just my coilpacks?

I've had a CEL saying i need a new o2 sensor, would that cause this at all?

What kind of coil packs would i even need for my car? How much do they cost?

Sorry for the rambling post and newb questions, i really know very little about Subarus atm.. On the plus side i just installed my boost gauge :)

Thanks guys!
