Luke's 99 Gen 3 Outback

28 April 2016 - 11:52 PM

My car... lets begin

its a green 1999 2.5L Gen 3 Subaru Outback. It has the 5 Speed dual range manual gearbox.

Here are some before pics of my outback on one of my first long distance'ish trips  :D

I've been slowly building up parts and buying things since i bought the car.

The previous owner liked his gadgets and had a dashcam, a battery tester under the bonnet and extra 12v sockets which actually came in handy many times.

I continued this trend as you will find out.

I have Yokahama Geolander All terrains which stick pretty well to the road.

They surprised me when i tried to get it stuck in some mud... My Subaru brumby has more issues with its maxxis mudterrain tyres.

I've mostly done internal work so far just to make it a little more modern.

I have installed four new Alpine S Series speakers because the original clarion speakers were all foam rotted and sounded quite awful.

I also installed a Alpine CDE-W235BT.

When i wanted more low end i did what any p plater would do and bought a 15" Subwoofer.

Specifically i bought a Alpine MRV-M500 Amplifier and a Alpine 15" Type S Subwoofer.

Aaaand yes i know what you are going to say.... "Typical of a p plater to have a ridiculous sub in his car"

You are right it is ridiculous... But i love it haha.

I also have installed a Uniden UHF that i was given from one of my dad's work mates and it was pretty much new because it was rarely used.

I did run a small magnetic antenna but i now have a bigger uhf antenna on my nudge bar.

Here are some photos of my interior:

Fits perfectly

The nudge bar is from subaxtreme.
I assume i am the last person to ever buy one of these nudge bars because after i received it the company removed the nudgebar and bullbar for the gen 3 outback off the site.

For the lightbar i have used a oem fog light switch and a relay to make it look as stock as possible.

To unlock the boxer sound i installed some uel headers and had another p plater moment and replaced the stock muffler with a straight pipe from the diff back.
In the end it was way too loud and did not suit the car at all haha
I got a straight through muffler welded on and it actually sounds pretty decent for a outback.

It is not quite stock volume but it is fairly close, i have noticed it getting alittle louder as time goes on though. The UEL headers make it sound awesome.

The car has new shocks and heavy duty lifted springs all round done by pedders suspension.

It has lifted the car another 1" from stock.

I do plan on putting 1" lift blocks later on to finally have the 2" of lift.

All the rubbers were replaced while it was at pedders and it drives amazing now!
