In Topic: [DIY] Hardwiring a dual channel dashcam

Hi,

Finished in Australia day. I don't have heated seats and the Powermagic needs two inputs, 1. constant power and 2. ignition power. I ended using fog lights for constant power (fuse 29) and accessory power outlet (centre console - fuse 13).

As for the cable to rear cam, I used a snake and run through the roof lining. worked really well. From the run in the existing conduit and under the rear window upper plastic cover. excess cable is near the centre ceiling light.

powermagic and front camera install;

attached with double sided tape, it is accessible if I like to turn it off

all excess cable is tucked away above that white plastic bracket

Power cable was run in the driver side pillar. very easy to remove. snake the rest of to the centre of the ceiling. well away from side airbags. the cable was attached to existing cable using electrical tape to make sure it doesnt' get tanggled.

Finished job.

Hi Grayfox,

Thanks for the great post. is that forester? I will be installing the same dashcam in a WRX. Just wondering how is the view from front camera? I did some testing today and looks like i have to mount it really low to avoid cropping from rear mirror mount. WRX rear mirrors are really low which is not great.

Did you remove any of the pillars to get the cable down or just pushed it with the screw driver? I am worried about getting the cable in the way of side airbags, any suggestions? The sales person at LIfe Style suggested to run in the roof lining using a snake, will see how it goes tomorrow.

I will use a power magic pro unit to avoid running the battery flat and have the parking mood of the camera. fingers crossed, it will all work fine.

cheers,

sole
