ChipTorque ECUTek removal

15 May 2016 - 03:14 PM

Any one had ChipTorque remove the ECUTek ROM from a MY03-05 WRX?

I sent my ECU away to them to have it removed so I could get a open source tune on it and stop being locked into the ECUTek crap.

The ECU came back from ChipTorque but car wont start. Starter cranks over, can hear the fuel pump prime, after a few cranks you can smell the petrol in the exhaust. Theres just no ignition.

No brant alarm, that was ripped out years ago. Mongoose M80 in place now. Car has literally not moved since removing the ECU so not sure why it wouldn't work? They assured me that removing the ECUTek and putting on a stock ROM would have no impact on the immobiliser part of the ECU. And I do notice that I don't get the red key light on the dash, so it would seem that the transponder in the key is being recognised.

Blown head gasket MY03 WRX

26 April 2016 - 04:43 PM

So as the title says I've blown the head gasket on my MY03 WRX, motor had 177k before it went. Car is in pretty good condition otherwise.

Seems like the going rate is about 6k for a rebuild of the EJ205 with OEM parts + ARP studs or about 8 if we use a EJ207 short block and reco the EJ205 heads

MSR seems like the logical choice for the rebuild and tune.

Is it really worth rebuilding? Or better to just drop a wrecker sourced EJ205 in and sell it off or trade it in for something newer. Insurance is still 1300 odd a year on this wrx and the market value is only 9500-10k

Hmmm decisions
