My wagon has now 310,000km and it's the 98-model and has had almost every seal and or gasket replaced. Right now I'm dealing with the lower sump leaking but the head gaskets have blown twice it's life so I'd watch out for that as your should buying any car but I haven't found much difference between the ej20 and 22 when it comes to common problems. Just check if it's been service regularly. Might be due for a timing belt
Maybe not your thing but I got the fronts from a 2001 wrx and while it does just bolt straight in, the wrx rails only require 4 bolts each while the liberty has 5 so the rails are different shapes but it will fit easily
