MY08 Outback 2.5L petrol valve cover gasket kit

20 June 2018 - 06:55 PM

As per the title, can anyone point me to the best place to source a good quality valve cover gasket kit at a fair price?

Is it worth getting silicon ones?

It seems that the most well known car accessory places have taken a leaf out of Subaru's pricing policy.

Thanks,

Pete

New Tyres for Outback

09 May 2018 - 10:05 AM

Hi,

I recently purchased a Suby Outback 2008 with 215/55R17 tyres and am in need of new tyres.

Most of my driving is highway with some dirt road thrown in.

I need a tyre that will grip well in the wet as we get a fair amount of wet roads here.

I'm hoping that the collective knowledge here will help.

Thanks,

Pete

Viscous coupling?

17 January 2018 - 10:28 PM

Hi all,

I'm not only new here but new to Subarus.

I recently bought an Outback MY08 manual DR and am very happy with it except for one issue.

It is as tight as a drum overall and full lock turns in either direction or forward or reverse are noiseless.

If I drive it several K's it's still fine, but if I drive it for over, say 20 K's, it starts to make what appears to be CV joint noises at full lock, and if I drive it for over 100 K's that noise becomes a knock which can be felt on the steering wheel.

I believe that this is possibly the viscous coupling.

So far I have called a couple of places which specialise in Subaru gearboxes in Sydney, and I have been led to believe that there is some special voodoo involved in repairing this issue. Judging by the prices quoted I would expect it.

My question is whether this is just hot air or whether any good mechanic can do the replacement with the knowledge of the extra parts required which I believe are new bearings and grease.

I am in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney and would really appreciate any recommendations for a good mechanic, if, in fact, there is a need for a specialist.

Whichever way, I would be insisting on genuine Subaru parts.

Thanks.

Pete
