1992 Subaru Legacy GT

Hi all,
I have been on this forum for awhile just lurking around with my first Subaru, a 92 Liberty GX. Since buying this car i have loved Subarus since. I'm still on my P's for awhile but I have been thinking about getting a project that i can work on when i have time off because lets face it there is only so much you can do to an N/A. After searching for awhile i came across a 1992 Legacy GT for cheaps so i grabbed it. This GT has 280 000 Kms and an auto box that has seen better days. Apparently it also has a bigger turbo but i am yet to find out what. It is still running a wtai for now with plans of a decent top mount later on. Basically I have awhile to work on this car with my plans of a manual conversion first to get it running to renew rego in 4 months. When completed i will be stoked on 200atwkw or close for my first turbo. I'm very new to turbos and will probably ask a few noob questions but i'm willing to learn alot.
First thing is the manual conversion. As for parts there is obviously Gearbox, Pedal Box, Clutch, Flywheel, Lines etc. Would i need a different ecu to run Manual or can i rewire the auto one?
Cheers,
Hayden.

For a few weeks now my Gen1 Liberty has been making a rattling sound from the engine bay and has been driving me insane. I tracked it down to the exhaust so i took the headers off and removed the heat shield thinking it was a rock inside. After shaking the headers to see if it had been fixed a chunk of honeycomb fell out so now i have realised the cat is rooted. I got a qoute for a new cat and was told $300 installed. My question is would you pay the $300 or knock the cat out? Note that im only driving this car around until i'm on my fulls in a year.
Any input is appreciated

I need to replace my cv joints on the front for rego so i was wondering if gc8 ones will fit? Would they give a wider track? Cheers
