Hook turns are in CBD streets with trams only. 
This is my observation of Sydney traffic light sequencing:

Wow, slow down, your green was too early.
Try getting to an intersection where the left is turning left and waiting for pedestrians, the right lane is turning right and waiting for a green arrow/traffic to stop, and you have to drive straight, there's about 4 of these on my drive and a lot of them I have to sit through 3 sequences before I get through. That being said that's only for 1000 shifts and sometimes 1400 shifts. Morning shifts are sweet, drive through city at 0530.

I did the old Blacktown, castle hill and out to the freeway route this arvo
caught just about every red, not much traffic though cause I left about 2;30
