xbox 360 playing files off my download pc via tversity through the wireless network

TVersity FTW!!!

Running my PS3 through a home network with TVersity (obviously) as the media server.
Got my PC up in the study with a 1TB external drive holding all my movies e.t.c.

Once you have a media server, you'll never go back. Gone are the days of burning everything to DVD.

I had real problems getting TVersity working under Windows7, so I moved to THIS software.

Its java based, so as long as you have the latest version of all the vid/audio codec's and the latest version of Java - it works a freakin treat!

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

I'm still running XP Pro, but will more than likely upgrade at some stage... What's this Java one all about? Why would you recommend over all the others? I've heard a few reports that it can be a bit temperamental in finding files, being recognised by the PS3 as a media server and also sucking a heap of CPU resource.

Richo - no. PS3 media server software, uhh...only works on ps3's.
It wasn't written by Sony, it was written by a bloke who was pissed off with Sony not offering any media server software, so he did it himself.

Being in Java just means it'll work under basically any platform (ie. linux/mac/windblows etc). I like it because I d/load a lot of .x264 (blu-ray type) movies and the playstation won't read them natively.

This software makes the computer do all the hard work of decoding the video/audio and it just sends the picture to the ps3. It does pull about 20-22mbit so you'll need gigabit ethernet to watch x264 stuff.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

OK, so it has the potential to suck a heap of resources! Not that great if people don't have a super slick setup...

tversity does/did the same for me before xbox supported divx. HD content (1080 etc) needs a fairly beefy PC just to view it normally. Any core2 would be able to play fine

super d1ck setup...

Hardly. I've got a low-end core2-duo, but that's overkill...chews maybe 1gig of ram (as all java stuff does)

Richo - mebe, not sure. i thought it was only ps3 but maybe....

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Nope

The only problem I had was getting the PC -> Xbox bot working. MS site offers about 4 different ways to do it (everything from the zune software to a xbox specific media connect). I could not get WMP11, Zune or normal media connect to work however I stumbled upon media connect 360 and it works perfectly (just make sure the xbox is on before setting up)

If you run into any issues doing it the microsoft way, drop me a PM and I will send you the Mediaconnect360 software

oh and that NOS one is lol (came across it the other day)

Nup, no mods required. Tversity is fantastic, occasionally it just wont work and ya have to restart the pc and the folder structure can be annoying but its free so ya cant complain too much. Install it, point it at your media files, plug the xbox into the network and away ya go. Im only streaming avi's to a crt tv so no high quality/bandwidth stuff but it runs fine on an old P4 3ghz and streams over g wireless network while downloading at the same time. I lurve eeeetttt. No burning, no copying to thumb drives/portable hard drives, no stuffing around with stacks of disks and cases, it just works (most of the time :flag_of_truce: ).

pretty sure i've found the sound set-up aswell which is this http://www.fluidtek.com.au/prod137.htm

if that link doesn't work then " Logitech Z-5500DTHX 5.1 Digital Speaker System "
