Chris, as for VY/VZ wagons, theyre pretty good for the price you will pay now. IMO the ecotec V6 (VY) was a better engine than the alloytec V6 (VZ). There is no mechanical difference between the two bar engine and only the front end has some minor cosmetic updates on VZ.
The VE is a far better design but the V6 is still poo as the VE is heavier.
Buy VE SSV or Calais V sportswagon WIN. (if you want a commo)
Chris,
I agree with Mark. Go for the VY Berlina. The ecotec is a good motor and apart from crook inlet manifold gaskets letting oil into the coolant. At VY the service interval was increased to 15,000km from 10,000km so make sure the service history is faultless. Like all GM engines, infrequent oil changes can cause the oil pickup to become blocked with crud.
If you go VY Berlina series II you get front foggies and a couple of other bits the series I missed out on and the saftey/options included for the price is great value.
I must say I haven't heard of anything bad about the VZ so if you want something a little newer then it may be worth a look.
One thing with Commodores is that the parts are CHEAP.I dont even price non genuine parts as they are quite often dearer than genuine. I paid $22 ea for new FE2 front springs!!!
I wouldn't get a VE until the series II is released and some of the new model bugs are ironed out.
Cheers
J
PS After a GenIII the Commodore road holding will pi$$ you off.
Mark, Jason....
Thanks guys. I appreciate your comments!
