When I locked in with ANZ, NAB wouldn't even talk to me about my loan, even though I had a solid loan history - perfect payment on a 10k, and perfect payment on a 25k - sure, not exactly big money, but a good history to look at. An extremely solid job, and consistent spending patterns for over 18m. So NAB were afforded the opportunity of sucking my wang, as I walked to ANZ.
Their (ANZ's) merchant services operation leaves a lot to be desired and I am one weekend outage away from looking for another option - annoyingly, the only time I get good response (talking four hours after the phone call having a tech here from Perth (3.5h/drive!)) is when I threaten to move the entire business and family to another bank.
I still have beers every now and then with my old account manager, ex-ANZ now runs his own consultancy firm, and since he left ANZ it's been seriously downhill. Wanted to get something VERY minor adjusted but I was told to wait as they were only dealing WITH MAJOR ACCOUNT HOLDERS THAT DAY.
I might be young, but I know I am not a minor account.
My worst bank experience was when I was with Challenge back in the dizzay, went to make a large deposit and they called the cops flat out. Lost all my money.
My Grandfather has been with ANZ for about 60 years.

Anyway. All's well that ends well, I'm an upstanding citizen in my local community now. But yeah, I used to be more scared of the bank than the dentist.

Newcastle Permanent FTW
No fees, decent interest rates for the times, friendly service, open Saturday morning, etc.
Between the Mrs and I, we've got about a dozen accounts with them, all joined together.
