long story short. got header tank powdercoated black. put in new stainless steel allen head screws in to dummy fit. one didn't want to go all the way in (screw lengths were appropriate). so i tried to take it out. was jammed toight. didn't want to play nice. so after several attempts, and even with some squirts of WD40... it bid me farewell. snapped flush. i suspect some powdercoating got in, and has jammed in the thread. now to source a new metal header tank. and now to get that powdercoated. pooballs. that'll delay me another week.

Bugger. Stainless can be hard to drill but could you drill it out and retap it? Ezyout may strip or break as the bolt is jammed. Maybe run a tap down the others to be sure.

Helicoil kit are dear. Around $200 at a guess. Taps are cheap. What size is the bolt? The busted stainless bit is the headache. It may be harder than the metal aroud it. You should have some taps handy if you work on your own car. Real time savers.

i remember buying a helicoil kit with a couple of coils for around fiddy.

just need one.

would love to have a full set, but.... i'm poor after my visit to the turbo reconditioners.

managed to drill out the bolt.

eventually.

after snapping two drill bits an easy out. had to drill out the easy out.

it's not pretty, but it'll be invisible with the top plate over it. so meh.

helicoil is the only option now. i could tap it, but the bolts would be different. and i need them to look the same so they're purdy.

i should take pics.

Drill and tap both out to the next size? Will still look purdy!

Sex thurty peeumm. I just dropped my mechanic home after he brought the Astra back to my place. Finally it's back and rocking. Alternator died a while back. Were lucky enough to source a 4,000KM old one from a new barina. Mechanic had obtained it from a non-paying customer and gave it to us for $200 cash fitted ! Bargain! Then, after getting that back the radiator cracked :( Unfortunately he did not have a spare radiator. He got that in yesterday, fitted it and ran the car for a pink slip and now it's back here. It's so awesome to drive compared to my suby. It's quiet, sophisticated, surprisingly powerful for 1.8L manual, and most importantly it's no different to any other car on the road. Gets no second looks. The radio tuned to easy listening at all times, and the aircon pumped at full blast permanently as it struggles to cool the car even if it were 5*c outside (I think the blower fan is going in reverse?). Nothing else really could beat it, apart from a Toyota Hiace. Ahhh... I love my astra

Worked on a WRP10 today. Why are they so special? To me they just seem like a Clubspec WRX with different wheels.
