So i had no idea my car's rego had expired, or even cancelled for that matter until i was pulled over this evening, and upon having my plates removed from my car and being issued with a $590 fine as well as being told i need to get my car towed, the lovely policeman told me to have a good easter.

And Victoria police can't seem to understand why people hate them so much
Thats the shits, and then to be so sarcastic by saying happy easter, the rego you have over there is that like a road tax?, we get 30 days grace on our road tax over here.

so i am now without a car until I can get it all sorted out with Vicroads
That sux Ash.
How long was it out of rego?
You used to be able to re-register a car over the counter (no inspection) providing the owner details had not changed. All you needed were the old rego papers, photo ID and a RWC. Maybe this still applies?

That sux,
but srsly, how do you not know when your rego's due??
Dont know about in QLD but here in VIC they send you the sticker just over a month before and you never get a reminder letter again.
It's easy to put in the "To Do" pile and then get forgotten.

The car is unregistered the day the rego expires and cannot be driven. Used to be if the rego remains unpaid for more than 12 months then a RWC is required.i just pay over the net. the gen1 lapsed by like a month then i realised and just paid it and all was fine.
Ash will become the expert on what to do if caught driving with expired rego!!
I Pay over the phone, ususally the night before!

In NSW the exp. date is put on the sticker after you pay. Everytime you wash the car and look at the sticker your reminded.

Having no sticker anymore will make it even harder for people I reckon.
Sounds like the local gov has hit on a new way to make a few quid, if you dont remind people to pay then when its lapsed give them a nice juicy fat fine, sneeky bastards....
