Much love to those Volvos. I understand most people hate them but I think they are cool!...

That last POS is an abomination and an insult to all things automotive. GAH!

I think $80 isn't enough to get by.

Put it this way.

An $80k gross salary, with a 1.5% medicare levy, will give you a net income of $61,250 per year.

$62,250 / 52.2 = $1173.37 per week.

If said person has a $350k mortgage (Median national housing loan amount) you take out repayments based on the National Affordability Rate of 8.05% (This is what all loans are assessed on, even though actual repayments may be slightly lower)you're looking at about $654.25 per week.

Now you take that out of the net weekly income of $1173.37, and you're left with $519.12 a week.

Then you take out expenses such as;

Fuel $50/week
Groceries $100/week
Insurance/Electricity/Gas/Internet $100/week

Then you're left with $250 a week for everything else.

I DO NOT believe a couple, could COMFORTABLY live on that.

Then you take into consideration a 3.3% yearly inflation, which gives you a higher cost of living, and wages not increasing anywhere near that percentage, you start to catch my drift.

$150k combined would allow you to live comfortably. But not like a BO$$.

To be BO$$-Like, you would need at least a combined income per household of $200k, i reckon.

I put up with people from amnesty, red cross and now the cancer council almost daily hounding me!! Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts,  :fork: right off.

I am not satisfied with my income.

Not particularly satisfied with our combined income either.

Its not always about how much you earn, but how much you waste.

Yeah, i've used the living expenses at a bare minimum.

You would spend well more then $50 in fuel, and even if you had no car, bus fares add up.

But yeah, it further re-iterates my point. $80k isn't sustainable.

Hopefully, if all goes to plan, i should achieve BO$$-Status by the time i'm 26. Thats the plan anyway.

AMS - There is a tax deduction that can be had for supporting a uni student.

Also good tax benefits if you contribute to her super. Instead of paying 31.5% tax for super contributions, you only get taxed at 15%.
