My car is having issues and i dont know whats wrong with it.
When i am using tiptronic and out it into 3rd it still says 2nd
and when im stopped it sometimes says its back in D instead of 1st.
It is changing gears just not registering the gear on the dash
Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

I have seen similar strange behaviour from my car, its most likely a bad connection somewhere between the TCU and the dash. There are 4 wires that send the encoded gear information from the TCU to the dash, if any of those wires is dodgy then it can cause it to display all sorts of wierd things.
You can check the wiring on the microswitches on the shifter, but if the gearbox is still actually shifting fine then the shifter is not the problem.

As for the solution, i'm not too sure, if you are keen then pull the dash out and make sure all the plugs are tight, also make sure the plugs are tight in the TCU. I've done this on mine and it didn't really help, I actually suspect there maybe dodgy soldering in the dash itself... Mine only does it intermittantly, i've just learned to ignore it.
