I'm on my p's and have my car insured and registered in my name. It only costs me $800 a year for an agreed value of $11 000 and my excess is only $1000. I'll ask my folks what company that is through and I'll let you know.

Oh and I've had a windscreen claim through them and it was all done and sorted within 2 days.

I was with AAMI but found that they don't insure cars over 10 years for any reasonable amount of money. Also the way AAMI do repairs - get 3 quotes, cheapest quote wins and you're the one that ends up getting screwed. Car got sent back 4 times for the one repair after someone backed into me in a carpark.

Turned 25, went straight to Shannons. Agreed value, $350 excess with change from $1200/year. Shannons honoured Rating 1 for Life = Win!!

Claims with Shannons are easy, already had a free windscreen and some panel work repaired. No fuss - choice of repairer.

my 2c.

I was talking to the spray shop I prefer about it, he hates dealing with AAMI - but also hates insurance companies in general haha. He understands that they are the cheapest for most people, but apparently you can choose the repairer regardless, as long as they are happy with the quote, but they just insist you use the one they approve in the area. I just let them use the local place, there is only 2 'local' to me, so that problem is a non-issue. He does a good job, but is more expensive than the guy we usually use just for maintenance (direct competition, same road).

My excess is about $1100 I think, with the numbers I said earlier. Which is why I will probably be with AAMI until I get over 25 (which is just under 2 years away), I will give Shannons a go when I upgrade around that time.

Reviving this thread.

Just got a call from CarSure insurance.

$544/year(Best so far)
$600 excess + $900 if im driving (best so far)
Agreed value between $6600 and $8900 (best so far)

They said: If you crash/are crashed into, they come and expect the car, and based on (KM's, Paintwork, ect) they value the car. but Value cannot go below $6600 and above $8900.

Has anyone dealt with them before?

Do they cover modifications? They won't insure me because I have an exhaust... I didn't tell them about anything else. I'm on full licence and never made a claim..

With covering modifications:
I don't want my modifications insured(tint, stereo, lower), but if i have them done, will i still be able to claim?

I would be really, really hesitant to insure with anyone other than the well known names...

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Sounds like you are under your parents policy as a main driver? If so, your estimate is not really valid.

Shannons, Occasional Use

been with them since i was 22, (on my P's too)
Premium $1100pa paid montly
Agreed Value of $10,500 (over the top but hey, they said that was fair call with my Mods) (Exchaust, legacy stuff and wheels) ok the wheels are actually bloody exy to replace!
Excess was $400 + i think $300 age excess at the time.
free window replace each year (already claimed one the day before my policy renewed :P - hassle free)

choice of repairer, and some shit about being given the car for cheaper if it is written off for whatever reason (so i can scavange parts etc etc)

Shannons are awesome! just call them dont bother online the prices are way different for me when i do it. also they wouldnt take a online quote cause of my age..

I know it is not a subaru but I use the buzz an off shoot from the nrma. car is insured for 65k allow mods but no engine mods. excess is $600 plus $500 because I have mods. I pay $965 per yr. no extra was added to the premium considering i just added a 5k sound system and 8k worth of wheels..

Hi,

Gospel.

Most all of the lesser names are owned by the big three anyway. Not many companies out there that are out from the big three really?

Can't think of any except for Shannons?

Cheers,
Nik

Well, I just went back onto the just car website and re done a quote. I now pay $83 a month instead of $135, same details as I already had, excess is $1100 plus a $400 for being a male under 22, and my wheels, stereo, all suspension, windscreen etc is covered for a total of $15,200.
Yay

Update:

Been searching around.

I think im going to stick with AAMI, they are the only ones who you dont have to disclose that there is a p plater driver.
Cant change the agreed value though.
