er I will replace all the lines but keep any restrictors just in case. From what I understand they are mainly only responsible to stop surging when cruising? I live on that desolate hemorrhoid to the south of main land Australia and the longest straight bit of road is only 4k's anyway so surging shouldn't be too much of a concern.
diagnose my issue.

Managed to source a second solenoid box but don't have it in yet. Had a mate look at the plumbing too, something wasn't quite right but hopefully the new box will fix it. Some of the vac lines were a bit brittle at the ends also so as soon as I find and fix the faulty

I'm not sure if the Gen 2's have it, but some the Gen 3's have 2 restrictors in the lines to the BOV, these are there to stop surging. If you remove them, you will find that you won't be able to get very high boost cos the bov will actually open up under boost.
The other option is to remove and plug the offtake line from the BOV, but this allows full boost, but makes the surging very bad. I had my car set up like this for a while, but i had to put it back to stock cos it became too annoying to drive, it was almost impossible to drive smoothly, cos the engine pretty much has only 2 states, cruising, or open the throttle a tiny bit and it goes straight to full boost.
There is also a restrictor or 2 responsible for controlling the bleed air from the boost control solenoids for the primary wastegate and the EGV valve, and possibly the secondary wastegate on the gen 2.
