Gday,

I just want to ask for a recommended tyre specs on this wrx rims (17x7 +55 offset) that later on will put it on to 02 gen3 liberty. i did some research and it seems that the stock tyres on this are 215/45 r17 some are suggested to go on 225/45 r17. At the moment, the wheels are had tyres on it but its 235/45..i think its too wide for the setup and might need to roll the guards just to fit in. Am i right?

At this stage, my car is pretty much stock including height, stock wheels...Later on, im planning to get some coilovers to go with the wheels, and want to bolt in, all in one job. A set of wrx wheels with new tyres and new coilovers...Plan is to lower the car (still in legal height) and with no scrubbage on the guards...is it possible?

So, which one is to be consider to be the better fit onto gen3 liberty? is 215/45 is bit narrow onto this wheels/ narrow for the setup? do 225/45 is no issues at all when you lowered it? Does anyone have issues on the fitment on those tyres on to the wrx wheels?
which one you prefer for the wrx wheels?
Sorry guys, for the lots of questions...i just need to enlighten myself on this ...I am very open for any advice, tips, suggestions and ideas on this.

You want 215/45 on those wheels. You won't have any scrubbing issues.

235/45 on those wheels would look ridiculous.

I have 215/45/R17 on my 17x7 wheels... it's OEM fitment as far as I know, definitely not too narrow in the slightest.

I have 225/45 on 18" wheels and scrubs with weight in the back on my GEN 3.

I think 225/45 on 17" is perfect.
I'll be changing to a 40 series soon enough.

I had 224/45/17's on those exact rims on my Gen1 though...tyres scrubbed on the rear struts under cornerning/load...guards were fine (but rolled). 215/45/17 is all good for daily use, and you will have zero fitment issues.
In saying that, I am having 225/45/17's fitted to my v7 Sti rims tomorrow for daily use(Gen2). As above, they look 'right' on the rim. And to avoid confusion, I imagine 'Walker' is referring to his 18's changing to 40 profile, he's not suggesting that for you.

They only scrubbed when I had struts in...changed to coilovers and they were fine.

STI wheels are 7.5" wide so they use 225 Tyres.
WRX wheels are only 7" wide so they use a 215 tyre.

ok, i was running the wheels ur talking about and i was running 225/45-17 semi slicks and my car is verry low on coil overs and had NO scrub. and in the next month or so ill be putting another set of these on my gen3

Tell that to the 'Fitment' mob 225 is clearly designed for a 10" rim.

I run 225/45/17 on my 17 x 7 rims, on a lowered outback. No scrubbing @ all.
The 225 is the max width that will fit on a 7 inch rim, you can not use a 235.

Yeah, thats what i tought...It just strange, the wrx wheels that i bought had 235/45r17 on it...and i think, from research and by the looks of it...it is too wide. It really all depends on what they prefer tyre specs...and also, the maker of the tyres. Anyway, atleast i have 2 options in tyres spec. I think, i might try to go 225/45 setup on wrx wheels bit wider than 215. Hopefully the tyres places will try to fit- in first and see if its touching/ scrubbage issue then if not buy it or if there are some issues then, get the other specs (i supposed).
Whats the speedometer on this setup with 225 on it...Is it UP few percentage? or low on it. I did try to to some speedo check using gps and my mobilephone, it seems that the reading is -2 on my gps/mobile. on tacho, 100kmh/spot but the reading is either 97-98. Oh, by the way im still running stock wheels (205/50r16).

Now, need to start lookin some good decent tyres for daily drive (good grip/ wet & dry plus low noise) just under 200$...im on the tight budget for few months.

Width will do nothing to your speedo, It'll be 0.01 of nothing.

Profile will. the 45 is the profile.

225's should fit fine, They look lovely on the 17x7's.
