You can use BitCoins for stuff other then DeepWeb though Nik. You can buy heaps of shit.

They aren't produced physically. They are an online only currency.
They are produced at a very small rate. At the moment, the algorithm will only allow 21million coins in circulation.
You can spend them online mainly, but there is a few places overseas that will give you real dollars for the BitCoins.
They are kept online through an encrypted "wallet" which is made up of 32 numbers that change regularly.
