Thoughts on mSATA SSD caching?

Are they like hybrid SSD's where they use a traditional platter style disk with a flash (ssd) based cache?

If yes, then i'm not overly a fan.

Buy a big fat 3-4tb disk for storing shit and get a proper SSD for your Windows install.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Basically, yes. Gives standard HDD's close to SSD speeds.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Basically, yes. Gives standard HDD's close to SSD speeds.

The illusion of speed.

It just stays in SSD-backed cache, reads still have to come off the physical platters so only write speeds see improvement.

I'd still go the 1 small SSD for Windows install and the fat-ass 4tb drive for 'storage'. At the end of the day, it's Windows you want running quickly, not access to your porn storage folder.
