I'm not sure you'll find much quality for cheaper than 3.5k unless you go for a chinese made bike.
I'm still looking at the 250s.. so things like the VTR250, CBR250R and Ninja can be had for under $3k... not sure I'm game enough to take on the 500... unless someone... ahem... Adam, lets me try out his bike for a while... lol!
But nah... tested a 500 already, and I just feel beter on a 250... as long as it gets me through my L's, I'm happy...

52000 km!!!!
So?
It's a first bike, and it's cheap.
Save your pennies (and scratched fairings) for you big boy bike in a few years.
As long as it's mechanically sound, the motor should be fine for 100,000 easy.

Yeah I do think a 250 would feel slow after a while... which does suck.. but once I get off my L's, I can get something better... 250 is just for me to learn to ride, get confident, do the test and thats it...

Is riding a motorbike all about going fast?
Nope, not at all.
Consider sitting in traffic and needing a bit of extra power to overtake or pulling out from a side street onto a main road.
250's need a good armful of revs to get that sort of power.

This is true... however, from the CBR250R I test rode, it has damn good torque at low revs, so I think that is much better at take off than a Ninja... but I don't like the sound and feel of the thumper...
I need to test ride the VTR250.. a friend of mine has one... might go try it out... v-twin is nice I've heard...

Thanks AMSy... I'm still looking around... 3.5 is above the budget... but good bike though...
Keep seeing bikes everywhere these days...
You should probably just by a bicycle then.

I already gave him one for free!
I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Fully agree with all of that. However, I've seen GS's for sale with 20k km for $3500-4k.
Wouldn't pay more than $2k for a naked GS with 52k km.
