Bashed out a risotto for dinner which I made up as I went along.

Turned out pretty good I might say. (must be good, the kids devoured it!)

I used the following and followed the basic risotto procedure

aborio rice

chicken thighs

onion

garlic

BACON

chicken stock

mushrooms (tinned)

white wine

parmesan

peas

baby spinach

olive oil

butter

ground pepper

spring onion (garnish)

Diced chicken on browned in oil with garlic then removed

Cooked bacon and onion with some more garlic and a little more oil

Added rice and cooked, then threw in the wine and reduced

Cooked rice adding sock, then near the end, threw the chicken back in with the peas (peas because I had fork all baby spinach)

Stirred in parmesan and a little butter

Folded in baby spinach

Served with a sprinkle of parmesan and spring onion

This took about two stubbies to complete.

Jase - I've got them but once they are machined its the wrong offset anyway so I'm just gunna flog them. They are +46 and standard is +40.

Sweeet! yeah I often hear about it because it is basically directly out off the coast from where I grew up, knew some of the local national parks people who would do stints working on the island and what not, they do flights out of Port Macquarie, I am guessing they probably do out of Sydney too.

When we went the only flights were Sydney and either Port Mac or Brizzy

Jase, you were asking about scan tools the other day, I spoke to Dad earlier and he said that he has an OTC one but he has just purchased (literally hasn't used it yet) a new Snap-On one because he said something bout needing a feature to do Regeneration burns on cars with diesel particulate filters... Just reading up on it now, apparently the filters get clogged up over time so there is a feature in the engine management that can be enabled that increases the exhaust gas temps high enough to burn the soot out, basically this "Engine management to increase exhaust temperature through late fuel injection or injection during the exhaust stroke"

Cool. Be interested to hear what he thinks of it.

The diesel ECU will 'burn' the DPF clean based on the pressure differential sensors. One before the PDF, one after. If the upstream sensor shows pressure at a set level and driving conditions are right, it will close the electronic throttle and 'flood' the engine with fuel by firing close to the exhaust stroke (CR diesel have multiple injector firing events per stroke) and raising the exhaust temp. This burn the turns the soot in the DPF to ash. (Not the one that flogs TV's :P)

The scan tool will do this if the customer does not meet the criteria (most need to be told to go for a drive in the country once in a while) but BEWARE. The exaust gets forking hot, as Brett mentioned, it will burn paint off a floor and produces stupid amounts of smoke.

Not all cars use PDFs. When tuning for low NOx emissions, large amount of soot are created due to cooler combustion temps. If they are tuned for low soot, then NOx emissions are very high (higher combustion temps) so a additives (addblue/  bluemotion etc.) are mixed with the exhaust as a catalyst to reduce NOx.

We just got one of these:

KTS570_Box7.jpg

Bosch KTS570

Blue tooth scan tool with a two channel scope.

It is forking nuts!

The scope is just as good as the big bad Bosch machine (KTS520 + scope + 4 gas) we have. I have not used a scope than can get near this thing.

We looked at the OTC (Bosch just bought OTC/SPX) and it was almost as good as the KTS570 but it was built into a laptop so it was harder to project it so a class could see it. Plus the scan tool was a separate unit that was a bit clunky and not very fast.

Hey Jase, do you know why diesels with a dpf filter use a different oil compared to others?

Or is the dpf filter the oil?

I used to do the DPF burns for Jag. Plug in computer and go for a drive down the Motorway. (You had to do like 80km/h for like 30 mins for it "Deplete" it)

The DPF is in the exhaust and traps the soot.

The oil is probably more to do with the type of engine or the sulphur content.

Ah Right, I've seen some oils that say not dpf compatible.

Haha, I did other things..

I used to similar for Vauxhall Sam. Take cars for long drives to see if i could get the car to fault, or listen for a specific noise. Our foreman reckoned i was better at that kind of thing than his technicians. So id get those jobs quite a bit. Also when Vauxhall bought in the HSV GTO coupes ( to rebadge as VXR) they used to send me out in them because i was only of the only people who had experience driving rear wheel drive V8's. not really a thing, but you can imagine what giving the keys to techs that were used to punting 1L corsa's and diesel Astras, evoked. Foreman just didnt trust them.

Sig worthy.

I have beer.

As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;

"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

I should just convert to single, right?
