I own my own hosting service. I can give you the space you need to get a website up and running. Think of me as the shop front, but you've gotta get your own products and things to sell (I'm hoping that's a good description?) on your shelves.

 

Basically, I don't design, code or create websites, but I can get you a WordPress blog, any type of forum, etc, installed and ready to use. But as far as custom jobs, I can't do it. I know people that can, it'd just be a matter of how long it takes them to get it done.

I "own" disk space and bandwidth from a hosting service on their servers. I provide you with an account with a designated amount of disk space and bandwidth that you use to get your website up. Disk space is your allotted storage space for files such as web pages, images, etc. Pretty much anything you physically put onto your hosting account is considered disk space. Bandwidth is how much quota your website has for traffic. So whoever visits your website uses quota; the more traffic the more quota you use.

 

What I basically do is give you the resources you need to get a website up and running. Without a hosting service/provider, you cannot put your website on the Internet unless you have your own server at home.

Having your own servers for your own website would be quite pricey (well, in Australia anyway), let alone having a few customers. I'm hosting about 10-20 websites as we speak and I never have to deal with the technical things. I just deal with the customer service and administrative side.

Nope. HostGator. It's a US company. Best one I've found when I was hardcore into it which would've been about two to three years ago...

Depends. Most of mine I don't charge as they are either family or have done things for me in the past related to graphic design and what not. But things are so competitive out there that you wouldn't make a lot any time soon to be honest.
