You should join the military - never a dull moment there.

Yeah, they just invent conflicts now.

They pushed through a new law today saying ASIO can monitor our internet traffic.

Protecting our freedom by taking my freedom away.

Not that I do shit on the internet that would get me in trouble but even still, fuck them fuck them royally.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Society accepts that in order to obtain it's security and protection it needs to sacrifice some of it's civil rights.

A constant theme in my study, Society will give up rights to exact justice on a few. Sort of cut off the nose to spite the face really.

I'm leaning more and more towards becoming a philosophical anarchist. Let people be people, and the few that truly go against our society will be dealt with by the people rather than witch hunting constantly, with the witch changing every decade (Nazis, Communists, IRA, and now Muslims)

Thanks for vid Alex. In 10min he got as far as I would in 45 if I drove.

General society maybe, likely because they don't actually understand what they're giving up.

Meh. Just a slippery slope.

What next?

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Not sure I would group Muslims alongside Nazis etc though Niko, maybe Extremists who claim to be Islamic.

I don't care if ASIO wants to monitor me watching porn.

with 23 million people in the country the chance that they will ever spend time monitoring my habits is next to non existent. I am not even saying I agree with the new law etc - just that I am no more worried about someone watching me than I was before it was passed.

Well history would suggest a revolt would rebalance the power. Societies never go as far as Orwellian society, and even if they do, they don't last long (Capitilisation of communist China, Libyan Revolution).

The 'state' is controlled by humans, who are trying to socially control other humans, so the fact is you can't fight fire with fire and have a complete victory, humans can never fully beat humans. Genghis Khan attempted to with his linch pin rules, to stop retaliations or revolutions, but the story is the human spirit will conquer over oppression always, sometimes it might take a while, but it will always happen.

Oh mate, I'm not persecuting here, I'm arguing against it, I'm saying society persecutes groups, and these groups change every decade, the anti-German sentiment following WWII, the anti-Asian sentiment following Vietnam, and now the Anti-Muslim sentiment following Iraq/Afghanistan and 9/11. We don't learn that generalisations get us nowhere.

I don't have an issue with the fact they CAN monitor me, my beef is with the fact they can monitor me without really needing any proof i'm up to anything dodgy first. They can now legally monitor bunches of people under one warrant which means they'll be slacker with WHY they actually want to monitor them.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

But it's still bound by the way in which it can use the evidence.

If you compare it to a CCTV. You might be recorded walking down the street, with someone who isn't your wife, now that evidence is insignificant to the person recording the footage, so therefore it goes nowhere. It would be valuable to your wife, but there's no way for her to get the ffootage.

So if you think they have your web traffic, it can't be used by anyone but them, and can only be used in proving terrorism cases, I doubt they would be able to release it to the State police ,for example, to prove that you were defrauding an ebay buyer etc.

Inside my own home, I do.

Ahh! right.

Carry on then. :)

I think that the chance you will ever be monitored still stands at no higher than it did before the law was passed, the people doing the monitoring have much more pressing issues and people to monitor than wanting to see what episode of cops you are upto :P

I have no expectation of privacy while i'm walking on the street.

Inside my own home, I do.

Why?

The internet is not your own home, the internet does not distinguish whether you are at home, at work, out at a bar, etc. The way I approach the internet is that at some point any of this stuff that I write could be brought up in a court room. So I find ways to explain it. Luckily the GT is so debauched, my comments don't look too out of place, but if by chance you were a 4chan or reddit poster and posted a lot of content that would be misconstrued to be anti-Australian etc, I would standby by for door knocking.

But let's be real for a second, the latest bunch of idiots who got ASIO on their tail were posting selfies on facebook with anti Australian and pro-IS propaganda. A 13 yo school girl could have tracked them down, let alone a 'spy' agency.

If it took the FBI years to break the Silk Road, I daresay ASIO have their work cut out for them if any of these disenchanted members of society actually learn how to use encryption properly.

It's done by keywords.

But even after that, it would be time consuming. It's also expensive, I think an individual Security clearance usually costs approx. + $100,000, so no, they won't waste resources on SubyClub.

They used the escalated 'terror threat level' to slip this through no questions asked.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not changing any of my internet browsing behaviour we just seem to be heading down the same path as the NSA-spying shit the US is going through and it was pretty general consensus the power they had/have was WAY over the top.

Meh.

Who's Juror Judy, is that a chick who likes being on Juries?

It's Duty......

I made $500 from reimbursements being a juror. I enjoyed it. I got the call as soon as I was 18 and smashed out two cases of assault... They were guilty like an orange surf shop!
