1/2 Breaker bar > most home impact guns for cracking stuff. Impact guns do have their place but for sheer torque breaker bars win

I cracked open a 19mm sidchrome socket trying to undo those damned strut bolts a week or two ago. That was with a 4ft cheater bar. Having just finished stripping a suby down to a bare shell, those strut to hub bolts  are far and away the hardest bolts on the entire vehicle to get off.

You'll get them off eventually!

My rattle gun didn't undo the bottom bolts either at first, but I kept it and it got there eventually. How much torque does it have?

Had 380nm which I thought would be enough but apparently not. Eyeing off a new one with 425nm for cheaper than my old one haha. We'll see how we go

Hahaha good to know its not just something I was doing wrong! Also good to know I shouldn't struggle this much again, I wanna work on this car as much as I can so I can learn more so this was a fair set back for me.

I'm going to my mates workshop this week so surely we'll get it done then

I actually found my ryobi battery impactor got anything and everything ive thrown at it undone

Some took about 5 seconds until it finally let go

I say impactor>breaker bar all day every day lol

Also...if youre using such a big breaker bar ensure you use impact sockets...as theyre a lot tougher and are 6 sided not 12+ like others

Your typical sidchrome gear is awesome...but is only designed to take so much torque loading

So less chance to round the nut and/or crack the socket ;)

Where did you get the KYB's and how much? Are they forester specific ones?

I need to replace my rears as they are shagged too.

I'm heading to Bathurst as well. I always stay in the Max Cameron camp ground. Do you stay on the mountain as well?

Check this thread out mate, I've just done the same - replacing the rear SLS with aftermarkets and standard height King springs. http://ozfoz.com.au/...c1b073f0581e151

Today is the day we get stuck into the suspension so lets hope all goes well.

I've also definitely got a boost leak somewhere, and judging by how hot the engine bay was right over the turbo (yes I know that's the hottest part but this was outrageous) I'm guessing the dump pipe has come a bit loose. Either that or the Y pipe has a leak and I'll just have to upgrade to an STi cooler than has just come online yesterday ;)

well we got the suspension sorted, wasn't the hardest job but I was still glad Brett did it for me as we did have a couple of issues. We also managed to pop the CV shaft even with all the car we took, and that took us a bit of maneuvering to get back in and fix up. Here's a progress shot with the right side doneAttached File  photo.JPG   81.84KB   10 downloads such a cool garage setup, 2 car spaces and a compressor outside, he also has a beautiful GC8 STi that lives in there as well

anywho here is the finished product. sits a little lower than I was expecting as I was told the Pedders springs only give a 2 or 3cm drop, but it is A LOT lower than 2 - 3cm -Attached File  photo (1).JPG   130.07KB   11 downloads

For anyone considering the same parts, they are very nice to drive. Way more comfortable than the shagged standard setup that was in there, definitely recommend them.

Now to find the source of the lack of power, possibly that wastegate chatter i've been reading about or a boost leak somewhere

Another small update, I've fixed the lack of power issue. I had a day where I should have been studying so I went out and looked for boost leaks but I couldn't find anything. I checked all the pipe and connections and they were all fine so I thought I'd start with the absolute basics. I changed the oil and filter, changed the air filter and cleaned the AFM, and lastly changed the coolant.

One or more of those things must have been the issue because it drives beautifully now. Coolant played a big part I feel because the coolant looked like it was mainly water and the overflow was empty so I fixed that up and the it feels cooler under the bonnet now after running

Can't beat a good service :)

Glad to see we got similar results from a Pulse tune...just got my Dyno sheet and car back yesterday. 96.8kW > 145.2kW :D Party time.

That's awesome mate. It changes the way the car drives majorly, it's so nice around town and really goes hard when you open it up.

Also my father in law bought a brand new XT and I drove that the other day, it's really smooth but feels heaps lazier down low due to the factory tune, so yeah the flashes make a huge difference. Also the new XT runs 20psi of boost haha

Also also, I meant to add this the other day, I measured the ride height once again seeing as it should have well and truly settled by now, and the rear is sitting 8mm lower than the front. It's only slightly noticeable but I might fix it up down the track

So I have the skylines Australia end of year cruise on sunday, will be a huge day and I've been looking forward to it for months. So typically the check engine light came on with the blinking cruise control light on my way to work tonight, that'd be bloody right. So praying for something simple, but first gotta find somewhere to scan it for me. Definitely the wrong time of year to be asking favours of workshops, they're all way too busy :(

Where are you based roughly? I have a wifi OBDII scanner if you just want the code.

I had pretty similar mods to you, done at the same place - same thing happened about 3 weeks ago. Was the O2 sensor complaining about EGT - missing with the catless up pipe. Pulse should be able to disable for you pretty easily

Ahh interesting. Is yours an 05-07 model as well? They came factory with cat less up pipes if I remember correctly, that could certainly have caused the issue. Thanks for your offer mate, I ended up just buying one of the OBD II sensors, I'm sure it'll pay itself off.

Issue turned out to be a combination of O2 sensor and auto transmission, the former was (sort of) easily fixed but the auto transmission code seems weird. Car drives perfect and I just got the car back from pulse as it was coincidentally booked in for a pink slip, they drove it and data logged it and said everything was spot on, so hopefully the issue just goes away. Strange though.

Also went for an awesome cruise with SAU for our end of year meet. Went up putty road to singleton. Fantastic day and the car drove great (this was after I fixed O2 issue). Had to take my daughter as my mrs was hungover after a Christmas party so I only went halfway, hence the lack of photos but I got a couple which I'll post up later tonight

Couple of photos from the day. I didn't go all the way to Singleton because I had my daughter and it would have been too much for her, so I turned back half way, so there wasn't many photos taken. Will be fixing that over the next couple of weeks.

The family zone, the 2 guys in stagea's turned up with their kids as well haha

Was a great day, and had some super cool cars rock up, including a '73 skyline, as well as 2 super rare R32 GTR V Spec II N1's (2 of 228 ever made)

So we got to the root of all my problems, seems the hose from the intercooler to the throttle body was a non genuine item and didn't seal over the throttle body itself even when clamped down as it was too big. So when I occasionally put my foot down a little more hose would come loose until eventually the car freaked out because it was running too rich.

I've ordered a genuine replacement from the states as there was none in Australia, but in the mean time we've clamped the absolute shite out of the hose that's on there now and it's made a massive difference, fuel economy has dropped from around 11.5 litres per 100km to under 10 on the first tank since the fix haha happy days :)

My god how time flies, I can't believe I haven't posted since New Years Eve! Got a promotion at work and then my workload got out of control slowly, 20 hour days weren't uncommon. But I have a new job now so there will be quite a few updates over the next couple of weeks.

The only update I have so far is that sometime a few months ago I got cut off in traffic while doing 80km/h by a car that was stationary in a turning lane. Stood on the brakes and had to swerve big time but did manage (somehow) to not make contact with the idiot, but the main thing that stuck with me was how poor the standard brakes were as this was the first emergency stop I'd done in the car. As soon as I got home I ordered a new brake setup. I have gone with WRX 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears, with Intima SS pads all round and DBA T2 rotors all round.

Attached File  Brakes.jpg   80.19KB   2 downloadsAttached File  Brakes 2.jpg   67.82KB   3 downloads

Previous owner had painted them black so I stripped that crap off and gave them a good clean. Came up aright I reckon. Also the braking difference is like night and day, I cant believe how much better it feels.

I will post more updates and photos over the next week or 2, there will be quite a few :)
