it's bent/melting into the covers, the belt is also rubbing.

Has the plastic cover shifted or has the pully mount been bent from an accident or similar?

haven't had an accident, and the plastic hasn't shifted. NRMA is coming out to have a look, will post when he has a look. it's got me stumped how it happened.

Same thing happened to mine. Its a chewed out key for the harmonic balancer I think. Its not a cheap fix. If its too far gone then a new crankshaft may be needed. But can be saved.

All Fixed, i suspect the apprentice at my mechanics overtightened the pulley, causing it to rub against the plastic cover. now running nicely :)

I really don't like your attitude, oh well it's sorted now. Just took the car for a drive and all was well. Should have some RS brakes on next week :)

Just the tensioner for the P/S and A/C belt if I am not mistaken... Not the end of the world.

If it had been the crank pully I would have been way more concerned.
It didn't run against the timing belt when it went through the cover did it? cos that could be..... ahh a bit bad :P

Just so people know... thats what happens when the EJ22 timing belt tensioner pulley snaps a bolt.. happened on my gen1, PITA to fix, but all too common when idiot mechanics over tighten the pulleys bolt.. requires replacement tensioner bracket too.

Why is the nut which holds the pulley's stud against the tensioner bracket loose?

what happens is the timing belt is slipping off the now angled tensioner pulley, but due to the plastic housing and AC belt being there the belt cant completely fall off.. it makes a horrible chattering sound as the Timing belt teeth chew through the plastics then it will eventually cut through, then cut through the AC belt and finally start jumping teeth.

remember the EJ22 SOHC is non interference so if it does slip nothing bad can happen.
it just runs like a dog, if at all.

this is EXACTLY how mine looked and i was freaking out, was my first car, i had no money, i joined ozfail and got told my engine was dead, blah blah blah the usual.. and then i started reading about stuff and got the Lube mobile guy out to look at it.. and thus my passion for Subaru started.

when i was working at SubaBits a few of these came in.. maybe a few thou after they had their 200k services (Timingbelts and pulleys) and each one was cause the pulley was over tensioned and the bolt just sheers off when they hit the gas hard or drop the clutch (due to sudden jolt on the belt)
